I've never seen legs like that on an ameraucana.

The only thing weird I have seen in the wheaten lines is an occassional white bird pop out. And, I did have some really blonde birds hatch last year that looked as if they were carrying a diluter gene that diluted the gold and the reds, but they still had a wheaten pattern and slate legs.

Maybe the person had some birds that jumped the fence......

Sorry for the consistent misspelling of wheaten. Whatever this bird is, if she lays an egg the color of the one she hatched out of, I will be pleased. Maybe she got crossed with an Ancona. Their legs are supposed to look like that. I do hope to have some blue wheatens someday.

If you want true ameraucanas you are probably going to have to do what I am about to do and go through the breeders directory for
The ameraucana breeders site and send oh a bunch of emails and find out who will do day old chick shipping and get on the wait list for when they start shipping again. They are a really sweet and unique bird so they are worth it to me. Right now i have some eggs that were shipped and got beat the heck up.... I am praying for one to hatch at this point.

Don't give up... The people I have met on this thread are some of the most helpful I have met on. Byc and to me that makes a world Of difference when learning a new breed.

I LOVE the blue boy. He currently has all the girls. Will start hatching later this summer. I agree, Diablo does have an unfortunate tail angle but he is pretty fine otherwise (he's HUGE!) so I'm holding on to him and hoping for good things down the road. (Everyone comments on his beetle green sheen. It is extreme.) May not go anywhere but I'm holding on to him just in case. And thank you for your comment, Jean!!!

I really like the blue boy. I have a huge blue boy I hatched during the winter also. He is still really gauky looking and doesn't look "put together" yet, but I have high hopes for him.

He has a huge muff and beard too.

I am probably going to put him over some of my whites to make some egg color improvements and to make sure I have gotten rid of the barring gene in that line. I am just waiting for him to "finish" out. If he turns out like I hope, he will also go to the shows this fall.

Just wondering what you guys thought of this rooster... I only have a few true Ameraucanas, but he's helping me make some really nice OEs at the moment.
