Ameraucana thread for posting pictures and discussing our birds

I need a wheaten rooster like you wouldn't believe. I have 18 hens/pullets from 2 lines and one blue wheaten rooster. I am considering buying hatching eggs just hatch a roo! Funny thing is, the last time I bought hatching eggs hoping for a cockerel, one egg hatched and it was a pullet.

The ones not from Paul Smith are NOT pure Ameracuana's!!!

Some hatched this morning with straight combs! I'm beyond furious! I paid a lot of money for these babies not to be mixed breed!!! I need to cool off.

Please be careful saying these are from Paul Smith. Paul does NOT sell eggs, only chicks. Sounds like someone is using his name/lines to sell eggs. Once he sells his chicks, what happens then is out of his hands.

No, these were not from his blood line. They are from someone else selling pure black and blue Amercuana's. bought from online.

The second set I have are from paul smiths bloodlines. Not hatched yet. I bought those eggs locally.

I'm just furious that someone sold me "pure Ameracuana's" and they are not. I spent a lot of money on these eggs.

Edit to add--- I got duped! Oh I'm ticked! I hope my second set are true Ameracuana's! My girls want to show!

Looks like I might start all over next spring buying from true breeders from here or ABC. I'm just so very disappointed. Nothing like throwing money away. I'll be giving these little ones to good new homes. They are not even the right color either. I contacted the person I bought them from and waiting to hear back.

I have a list of ABC breeders that ship eggs. I'll be looking for wheaten or blue wheaten color.

The feather color is brown. I'm really getting upset.:(

My kids of course want to keep them, but that is out of the question. Major lessoned learned.

Has anyone run across this before, I kinda wondered what went wrong when 3 of the eggs turned a hint of green. I bet these are very expensive Easter eggers at best.

I don't even know where to begin. I already said it and I'll say it again, this thread has become very hostile and there is no learning going on because of these EE fights. I dread reading it because of the headache I get from it. My OCD requires me to read every thread I follow, so don't say I don't have to read it. I don't, but it would literally drive me nuts if I didn't.

Sadly, we will always have people who will be misinformed because the hatcheries breed and mislabel their EEs every day. Then, the people buying them from the hatcheries breed them and sell them mislabeled. It will never end until 1) the hatcheries tell the truth about what they are breeding and 2) people are smart enough to read before asking what color their Ameruacana is when it's actually an EE. I have only been doing the chicken thing for a little over a year. I've learned a lot, but still don't know everything. I will say this, I took the time to research what I had and improved since then.

I am irritated that some of the people on the forum say project colors have no place on this forum. And getting an attitude and mentioning posting about Silkies and Marans is just as ridiculous as the people with the issues with project colors. Why so much hostility? Can we just post that said bird is a EE, send them to the EE thread and the ABC site so they can educate themselves? All this fighting is really grating my nerves. It's almost as bad as my 8 and 10yr old nitpicking over complete BS. "She touched me!" "He touched me first!" "No I didn't! She's lying!" "He started it!" OMG. Don't make me separate you!

Seriously, though. Can we please stop the insanity and get back to the help and learning?
Thanks!

--------------

I traded a few of my eggs for another breeders chicks and the chicks are now a month+. One of the pullets is one of those mostly white BW/Ws anomalies that pop up. No one really answered the original poster's question about if anyone has kept and used any of these birds in their projects. So, since I have had one cockerel hatched from my own flock and then this pullet from another flock, I am wondering again if anyone has kept and used any of these birds. I am going to keep her, just because I am curious and what's one extra Ameraucana (of course the way this thread is going, I guess she's an EE)?

Also, wheaten is recessive, right? If I bred them to a chocolate, the offspring would be solid chocolate and black (or possibly mauve if blue wheaten x chocolate)? I don't plan on working on that project, but I was wondering how that would work in case I do decide to. I have an extra/back-up chocolate Orp I am debating about where I am going to put him...
Thanks for that! I agree. I am new to chickens and have been reading these threads. I know the Marans thread is very much like this one. Every chicken has to be perfect. I just want some fun eggs. I don't intend to breed chickens. So reading all this bickering is sickening. All some of us want to do is ask questions, learn and have fun. I am so glad you spoke up. Thanks again!
