Ameraucana thread for posting pictures and discussing our birds

Goose & Fig,

The BBS black pullets I have came from Whitmore Farms in Emmitsburg, MD. As far as I can tell, these are solid black, blue, and splash ameraucanas (I only have the black ones left - predator attack took the three blue chicks). My blue wheaten roo was the only hatchling from a set of wheaten/blue wheaten eggs I got from a breeder on ebay. Hence, the question on the outcome of that combination, a pure black pullet with a blue wheaten roo.

Thanks for your thoughts!

Yes, the children crossed together would give you an assortment of lavender and white and black if the White grandparent is split to Lavender. If the White grandparent is Lavender covered by recessive white you would get White and Lavender in that generation.

Alright Ameraucana experts... I need your help! I got a batch of Ameraucana pullets from a hatchery and most of them are feathering out and looking normal -- I have my doubts about two of them though!

Please take a look at these two little ladies/gents and tell me what you think!

chick #1

Chick#2

These two are great lap chicks but they are a little bit rambunctious and the wheaten looking one has a much larger pea comb than my others.. I'm new to this breed so any help would be much appreciated!

Hopefully I'm just being paranoid and these are in fact pullets! :)

No- don't do that. You may get what seem like solid black chicks, but they will mature to be leaking red. Best to find yourself more B/B/S. They are also a lot easier to find good ones than the wheatens are.

Open question here, looking for ideas. What kind of banding/identification system do you all use? I'm looking to band for different generations and lines (chicks are hard to tell apart). I've entertained the idea of zip ties with color coded striped or bars, then switching to permanent once they grow out. Thoughts?
