Ameraucana thread for posting pictures and discussing our birds

I bought Checker as a chick sold to me as an Ameraucana but I assumed Easter Egger because I bought him locally. No one here seems to know the difference. But as he has grown I am begining to think he maybe a Brown Red Rooster after all. What do you think? He is 4 months in this picture. I have been trying to get a newer one but he is fast.

Sorry to say he is not a brown red. Just a EE. A very nice one. I will try to add a brown red bantam photo.

I hatched 11 Ameraucana chicks in August that are black/lavender splits so they are 17 weeks old now. Some of the cockerels are starting to show leakage on their backs. Is this something that is common in splits? I was hoping to use some of these to breed back to my two lavenders to get some more lavenders. Since they are showing leakage do I not want to use them at all? Lavenders are new to me so I'm not sure what I should do. Any advice is appreciated.

Yes it is common on splits in some lines. Silver leakage in lavenders is hard to detect because lavender malels often get a silver cast in the neck and saddle even though it is not leakage. So use your best split without leakage. This will help rid your line of leakage. If you have nothing better use them until you can get better ones. Red leakage is also possible but less common.

yes it is common. ill try to send a picture of my easter egger hen. shes the coolest thing.

He's a beautiful rooster. It wouldn't change anything one way or the other. Just wanted to know. I had found several pictures that look exactly like him online labeled Brown Red LF Ameraucanas and since everything on the internet is true...

I thought I should double check. What is the difference between a wheaton and brown red? The roosters look so simular.

I can't comment on his plumage color, but his legs are green which automatically makes him an EE. He is very pretty though.
