Ameraucana thread for posting pictures and discussing our birds

Since I got mixed responses earlier on my boy/girl question for the mottled bird I have, I started a thread in the boy/girl question forum with updated pictures. (I didn't realize that was a separate category in the forums the first time I posted - sorry!) It pecked at me a couple times today while I was working around the run, which would be unusual for a pullet right? Anyway, didn't want to clog this thread with the pics too, but in case you are interested, here is the link: https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/903086/12-week-old-mottled-ameraucana-boy-or-girl

What is the best store bought feed to give my Ameraucana's I am going to show?

I think Nutrena is the best. They have several kinds depending on your needs. Meat bird at 22% to add weight, grower feed at 18% and a feather fixer with a higher protein amount for molting birds, etc., in addition to their layer feeds.

The purina game bird varieties do not have all the distillers corn in it. The game bird breeder is 20%, flight conditioner is 19% and the starter is 30% protein.

I generally feed whole grains, but supplement with the processed feed in case I am missing any nutrients.

Is there an organic feed with some kind of animal protein added to it? Fish meal for example?
Big Sky offers several different types of certified organic feed, some (maybe all) are corn and soy free, some of vegan and some contain fish meal. I have been very happy with their feed. We have a buyer's co-op and order every two months, that way we can get wholesale pricing and share the shipping of many pallets of feed.

That being said, I have a color question - the white was was a lavender to start, I believe, and turned white. Does that make it a splash? (I am just learning). And the black has a little silver under his beak - does that give him a good chance of being split to lavender?

My question seems lost in all the threads - what do you think?

Culls for John, yes, but for me, well...the only thing I don't like about the white is he carries his tail down. Not sure if he was injured or just terrified.

But, that being said, is the black split to lavender to have that coloring possibly? And has anyone else seen a lavender go white? John would not have known that is what it was going to do because he sold them as young (week old?) chicks.

The only Purina around here is the Layena, Omega 3 egg maker and Flock raiser. Haven't seen any gamebird. :(
