Ameraucana thread for posting pictures and discussing our birds

I have some Ameraucana Hens (at least that is what I think they are...) and just got a Rooster yesterday.
I think he is a Silver Sussex?
Haven't been able to post directly to this site so thought I'd jump on you thread and post the picture of the chickens and ask if you could direct me to a source to confirm the breed of these chickens.

Your hens in the profile pic are Easter Eggers. Your rooster is a Silver Laced Wyandotte.

Here is a link to a thread that may help . https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/713475/diffences-between-ees-ameraucanas-and-araucanas

A breeder I asked about pale legs on Wheatens, Blue Wheatens, and Buffs said these colors are problematic for poor leg color - something to do with the Wheaten gene.  I don't breed but it made me feel a little better about my girl.  I lost her sister as a juvie and she had bluer legs and more blue feathers in her body.  My B/W is so pale in body colors she could pass for a Buff.

I have one blue wheaten pullet (I have a large "mixed" flock....one/two pullets of about 15-20 different purebred types/breeds and NO roosters). My one "purebred" BW also has paler legs, but they are still resemble a slate coloring. In fact, I have a couple F1 EEs (black AM x Buff Orp) that have MUCH darker legs than my "pure" AM. Still, my AM has MUCH darker legs than the one pictured....those look more like Buff Orp legs. Get that girls some sunscreen for those pasty whites! :lau

ETA: don't know why there is a redirect in my post...it doesn't go anywhere and I was not trying to embed a link

Thanks Ravyn! It would be great if they all end up to be pullets. They are all purebred for sure, this man has been breeding for some time and showing. He breeds to the SOP, so I'm not sure why 2 are looking to have the yellow legs. I also emailed him so I'll see what he says. I know he culls hard in his program. I will watch their chests, I have seen some slight edging in them. Here's some chest views of Gray last week - is this what you mean or would it be more drastic? Thanks!

At the age they are now, they are not going to change coloring and become male. You can rest assured they are pullets.

I agree they are all pullets too. However, the legs indicate to me that someone jumped the fence a generation or so ago. The seller also has welsummers which have yellow legs and one of the chicks has a single comb......

The seller has stated that he has not brought in any new blood at all, and has been breeding these birds for several years, so that is the obvious conclusion.

There are some really nice photos of wheatens and blue wheatens on the ameraucana breeders club website gallery. We even have a photo of a younger wheaten pullet you can view to see how the leg color changes as they grow.

Thanks Pips and Peeps and Mrs Bach Bach. When I emailed the breeder about sexing and pointed out the legs he pretty much blamed the feed, asking what I was feeding them and saying it was the marigold extract. If that was so, all 4 would have the yellow legs - however, I'm feeding the highest quality feed around here - Scratch and Peck, non-gmo, corn and soy free - I highly doubt there is marigold extract in their chick starter. Ok, just checked and it doesn't. I was mixing with another organic brand and I'm not sure about that one. But anyway, I first noticed the color of the legs in the first week I had them I think and have been watching them hoping they would change.
I have been to the Ameraucana.org gallery many times, however, there aren't any pictures of young cockerels for comparison. You also can't make the picture large enough to see the comb, and for a newbie, there just isn't enough detail to know by looking at those.
I will take a look at the new website as well, thanks Shaffer.

For now, I know I have some pullets, so that is great news. Thanks everyone!

@JulesChicks glad you have pullets like you wanted, but I wouldn't use that breeder again... sounds like he just doesn't want to admit that he could make a mistake...
Never heard of Marigold affecting leg color or any permanent color on a bird, just that it makes egg yolks darker orange...
