Ameraucana thread for posting pictures and discussing our birds

Hi everyone! I am having a hard time telling lavender from blue! I am pretty sure two of my chicks hatched from bbs eggs and one from black split lavender. Two of the chicks look more lavender! Can the blue come out light and look more lavender? Then change later? They are three weeks old.

If you could post a photo, that would help in determining for you.

HELP! In my continuing quest for an all blue/black Ameraucana flock, I ordered some eggs from someone in NY (I'm in Washington state) who claimed they were purebred BLUE/BLACK and Lavender Ameraucanas. Well, I happen to have some purebred Ameraucana hens and one rooster (from a very trustworthy someone here on the forum, as a matter of fact), and I'm seeing true Ameraucana eggs every single day. When these so-called "purebred" eggs showed up today, I was shocked to find large GREEN eggs in the box, not the smaller BLUE eggs I've come to recognize as Ameraucana.

Being rather new to the breed (just about a year now and NO hatches of my own), I know that my knowledge is fairly limited. But I don't think these are the correct eggs. I took a picture with the eggs I was sent compared to the eggs I'm getting from my current flock of Blue, black, and wheaton Ameraucanas. My egg is on the bottom row (says MINE on it) and the top eggs are what I was sent.

Can anyone confirm that these are NOT Ameraucana eggs? Or am I totally wrong here? They are ALL green, every single one of them, and most are big like this one on the top left of the picture. I'm used to these small, light blue eggs from my Ameraucanas.

HELP????

. If you check out the Aneraucana egg color chart you can see the varied colors that are excepted in eggs. Many are more green with just a hint of blue. That being said, if you are more concerned with your flocks eggs being bluer you may not want to hatch theseZ. But I don't think the breeder was being dishonest.

I just bought 3 Ameraucanas from a local breeder. I am new to the chicken world but wanted the novelty of some blue eggs but also to stay in a true breed so that I can breed and sell chicks in the future. One is a white splash, one seems to be a blue of sorts and the other is black with copper breast. They have the beards the gray feet and tails of an ameraucana but I don't think these are the "standard" colors. Does this make them still true amercaunas? Or a bit of a cross of some sort?

I called Townline without actually looking at the website and the lady on the phone said that they do not cross breed them and that the breeder they get there is from claims not to crossbreed either but that meant nothing to me because I know nothing about any of this LOL. I honestly just picked her because she was the only chicken left and she was all by herself so I got a couple of Guineas to keep her company and that was the beginning of my chicken owning career. Are Easter Eggers known to be very skittish? She is a total spaz, bless her little heart. My camera is so full and I don't know what to do with all the photos or I would take a picture of her now. Is it the coloring difference that makes the distinction? When I have looked up photos of americanus and they looked like her to me but I never did bother looking up Easter Eggers. I also got two silver sebright chicks from the same place I couldn't believe they were just thrown in under assorted bantams LOL. Townline told me on the phone that they read their own sebrights, I was asking because I hear they are delicate, so far mine have been doing great and actually Rural king in general has a very low mortality rate for chicks outside of customer mishandling so maybe Townline score some points on that end at least.

Your little chicken is most likely flighty or spazzy because she is being raised with guineas. I bought bantams and and guineas at one time . Raised 3 guineas with 2 bantams and they were nuts. Extremely flighty wanted nothing to do with me even though I was in contact with them 3 or 4 times a day. I ended up buying more bantams and separating them from the guineas for 2 or 3 weeks. Immediately after separating my chickens were curious and docile and would eat out of my hand and land in my lap or on my head . The guinneas were still freaks lol. Once they were big enough to be out of the brooder I let them all live in the coop/run together and now the guineas are adapting to the calmness of my bantams. I would get your chicken some chicken friends to chill with.

I agree the breeder may not be dishonest - even my Ameraucana lays her blues w/a touch of green in a certain light-not as green as your egg greens though. Some well known breeders sometimes apologize that their eggs are not as blue as they would like so it happens - I just don't think it would qualify under the SOP in shows. I would think Ameraucana would be more bluish than greenish. The green eggs are what I would expect an EE to lay - still they are large and a pretty color. Hatch them and if you think they are EEs the local feed store will sell the chicks out in no time!

THANK YOU for the replies, folks. I knew I could count on you guys to help me here. I didn't know there was a color chart. Is it here on the site, by any chance?

I have a couple EEs in my flock currently, and they lay those huge green eggs, so I was really worried when these supposed-Ameraucana eggs came in looking just like my EE eggs.

I guess I'll see if these will hatch (they were sent with NO cold pack in an uninsulated box. . . I'm worried they're all dead.) I'll probably keep the chicks that hatch (if any at all), but I definitely will NOT breed them nor will I buy from this person again.

If anyone knows of a reliable, honest Ameraucana breeder who will ship either day-old blues/blacks or the hatching eggs, I'd love to get that info <3

I am NOT looking to sell eggs or chicks myself. These are my pets and egg-producers, just for my own use and some eggs for friends.

What color are the bottoms of their feet?

I am on the fence on this Splash Ameraucana I have. The chicken in question is 16 weeks and was bought as 90% sure pullet. This chicken does not have a comb that is as red as the rooster I have with it had at that age and the known pullet has same size legs and feet. The rooster it is keep with does not fight with it or treats it different than the pullet in with them and has no sickle feathers. Is Ellie an Elliot or just have higher testosterone levels?
I'm sorry, but Ellie looks like an Elliot... in the 2nd and 3rd pics it looks like there are very pointy saddle feathers just coming in at base of tail... sickle feathers usually don't come in til they are much older...
