Ameraucana thread for posting pictures and discussing our birds

Just for clarity: Are two different clubs putting forth two separate applications? Hope they agreed on the same description! (Really hoping it's a joint effort)
This is not a joint effort. The APA has let it be known that they will not accept the term "lavender", which the Ameraucana Alliance has insisted on. With the number of folks breeding and showing the Lavenders, aka Self-Blue, we decided it was in the best interest of the breed to get them approved with the name that APA will accept.

Ok. So do both clubs need the 5 breeders for 5 years?

Sounds like twice the amount of work necessary, but I understand how politics makes things sometimes :gig

Hope one of the clubs is successful! There are some gorgeous lavenders out there.

Well, both clubs will need to have 5 signed affidavits from breeders who have had self-blue and have been APA members for at least 5 years. Those names could be the same people, but I doubt they are.

Yes, it is rather silly, really. We were waiting to see what the Alliance was going to do, so as not to barge in on their parade (to paraphrase). ;) But there are just too many people that will be negatively impacted by waiting for the Alliance to get "lavender" approved, which the APA has made very clear is not likely, and they have clearly stated that they will not back down on the name.

It's beyond my comprehension, really. Seems to me it doesn't matter what the APA calls them, we can still refer to them as Lavenders. We just have to make sure to mark the right box when we're sending in entries. But, I guess the label is important to some folks.
