Ameraucana thread for posting pictures and discussing our birds

I looked on the two official Ameraucana website clubs and there were no chick photos of the 8 standard SOP colors that matched your chick. Your chick is probably an Easter Egger and not for Ameraucana showing. Maybe it can be entered in the "other breeds" category at shows but if you are interested in showing actual Ameraucanas, contact a reputable breeder from the breeders lists on the Ameraucana websites to get a bonafide Ameraucana chicken. Easter Eggers are lovely chickens and yours will be a fun bird and who knows? maybe a winner in the other breeds category!
You have the right answer and the right resource. I put the day-old chick photos on the club's site years ago to help folks identify the different accepted varieties, just as I did with the adult photos of both bantams and large fowl. http://ameraucanaalliance.org/photos.html
The second part of your reply, mentioning an "other breeds category" is something I've never heard of. All fowl are entered under whatever breed they are and variety they are. If they aren't a recognized APA/ABA "breed" then they shouldn't be shown. The exception would be a new breed that isn't yet recognized. If a bird doesn't meet the breed standard it is entered under it will be disqualified when judged be a competent judge.

All the chicks are so beautiful!!! Ameracuanas and Easter eggers alike!
I've got 15 BBS incubating and candled them yesterday. All growing!!!!! Can't wait to see what hatched out.

How old do you think Rowena is? The lady I got them from said 2-3 weeks, but she definitely looks at least 3 weeks old to me. And it's bugging me that I can't tell if Midge is a splash or a blue. I'd really like to know what all of you think she is. I'm honestly not sure about her. To me, there's a 50/50 chance that she's either. I'll take some more pics and put them up in just a second....

I think she is a very light blue. Your bluewheaten, it is hard to tell sex sometimes until about four weeks, but it does have alot of blue for a female, so I'm thinking male also. It is also clean faced and will likely have no muff or beard or very, very little. Happens sometimes. Curious, where in AR did you get them?

Prairie Grove, from a man named Brandon Bryan. He said his breeding stock were all bought directly from Paul Smith. I hope Rowena isn't a roo....she's mighty maternal for a boy, if that's the case. She dotes on all her little "sisters" and doesn't want me to hold her because she's too worried about getting back to them. She seems to enjoy all of them snuggling her.
Here she has FIVE babies under her; her two Am "sisters" and 3 SLWs I just got today:

I really hope you guys are wrong and that she ends up being a pullet. I really wanna put some babies under her later, lol! If she is a hen, I could almost guarantee she'll be broody. So sweet

Duck foot is the first thing that came to mind. But isn't that toe supposed to point forward? Towards the front toe if its duck foot? The right toe is worse than the left.
Please let me know what you think it is..if anything at all ? And I assume I would definitely not want to pass this trait on. Even a crooked toe could be a deformity that could be passed on?
Thanks guys!

Sometimes those wonky toes correct themselves with time. I've had several chicks develop bent toes. I only splint the most severe cases, when mobility is compromised. Eventually they straightened out. I think it's mostly caused by weak/loose ligaments, it takes time for those joints to strengthen.
