Ameraucana thread for posting pictures and discussing our birds

I was going to get another order of eggs wheaten eggs but I think I’m going to hold off, it seems the USPS is overwhelmed right now and shipping has quite a delay.
Yep, this whole virus thing has put a lot of products that were previously purchased locally into the USPS/UPS/FedEx stream. Amazon is doing great business! DW is a postal clerk, said the package volume is greater than Christmas time!

Hoping to get some advice from someone more familiar with Ameraucanas!

Some back story: I currently have a blue Ameraucana rooster, he's been my main breeder for 3 years. I use him in my olive eggers over French Black Copper Marans. The olive eggers I've held back I want to breed back to an Ameraucana and I'm looking at a potential rooster for some new blood and possibly good color.

There is a local guy selling an about a year old... what I'm guessing is a splash wheaten for $20... I'm just not sure about it and want some opinions on it. I'm also trying to work out possibilities and benefits of this color if anyone has anything to chime in...

*Other hens I have in my flock for some fun mixes are: Barred Rock, easter egger, saphire gem, welsummer.
*I'll be getting a French Black Copper Maran rooster this summer.

Well I just picked up some 11 weeks ago and oh boy has it been fun

I’m not an expert but I don’t think he is splash wheaten( the pattern doesn’t look right), he also has yellow legs which is wrong for Ameraucana. I’m not sure what plan to use him for he would work for Easter Eggers. He isn’t a good representative of Ameraucana but if your doing fun mixes that may not concern you.

Out of curiosity, what have you gotten from Barred Rocks? I have a dedicated breeding coop, but when not the target, they'll be free ranged...so I'm going to get some interesting mixes. Barred Rocks, Ayam Cemani, and Ameraucana lol.

I've been getting sex-link easter eggers from my barred rock hens and my Blue Ameraucana rooster. The hens are all black blue and light blue and roosters are barred.
(As chicks the boys have a white spot on their head and the girls don't)

These are the Barred Rock eggs next to their daughter's Easter egger eggs, the size usually stays pretty good

The Barred rooster below is from the same parents. He has the beard like the Ameraucana... witch is beautiful!

THANKS! I actually didn't notice the legs, he could work for my other mixes but I still need a good blue egg gene for my olive egger program.

Any thought on this one’s gender? All the others either have calico like chest or light chest with no black or blue. This one just has a small patch of color no other dark pin feathers yet and not getting a comb like the other cockerels.

I agree,he doesn't look like an Ameraucana.

So what you need to know, is what color was the egg that he hatched out of.
