Ameraucana thread for posting pictures and discussing our birds

hey guys , is there anyone here that can ship chicks or started birds , im looking to get more ameraucanas , i got a trio of white ameraucanas from pips&peeps i just love , but as a true addict i NEED more ... lol

also i know its the wrong thread but im looking for some more orps too

I hatched out 7 Ameraucanas the end of April and ended up with 4 cockerels and 3 pullets. I rehomed 3 of the cockerels, keeping a Splash. I know I have a Splash pullet and think that the other 2 are Blacks. The problem lies when I was hatching these eggs I also had Olive Eggers in the incubator and have 6 pullets (5 black and 1 blue) that are Cuckoo Marans/Ameraucana pullets that look almost exactly like the Ameraucana pullets. Based on comparing the combs with the known Splash Ameraucana (smaller comb) I am guessing which ones are the Ameraucanas. I would appreciate getting some educated opinions on which are which ~ none are laying yet. Some of the pullets are missing their tail feathers which were being pulled out by the excess cockerels

(since rehomed). Only one of the OE pullets has a few tiny feathers on her legs.
Thanks for any help in IDing them.
Splash cockerel ~ he has been letting the girls groom (pick) his beard

Suspected Olive Egger ~ I was hoping this one was an Ameraucana, but the comb is bigger leading me to guess she is an OE.

Olive Eggers will often have a more narrow, crow-like beak and head, such as the suspected black Olive Egger pullet. Also, the tail can be pretty high set or long and thin, too.

That's some nasty feather loss on those girls.

(this is another reason why I make Olive Eggers with Araucanas, not Ameraucanas - And I choose color crossings that will be unmistakable.

I have a question, I am kinda new at ameracaunas but they are quickly becoming my favorites, what colors were used to create blue wheatons and why

Blue and Wheaten.

Wheaten is one of the more, and probably most original color of Ameraucana. Then blue came along in the same fashion it did with every other breed. All you really need is a Wheaten with the blue gene, but it takes 3 generations to actually work with I believe.

Well, basically you should have the Wheaten father, blue mother, then out of those you should get 1/4th Blue Wheatens. From there, use those and you'll be fine. The best to do, really, is take a Wheaten female or male and pair it with a Blue Wheaten from your first gen. After that - You've got Blue Wheatens and Wheatens together.

Course, this is with standard Wheatens, which are slightly different from Ameraucana Wheatens - I may be wrong, but I'm pretty sure I'm not.

The 3 generations part is if you have a blue father x wheaten mother. I believe one of the reasons is because blues have silver genes, not gold.

Ha- Holly did the same thing with black EEs

I think you're spot on with that pic of the 2 black girls- the marans crosses have a bit of a different shape/tail carriage. Very pretty, and they appear to have nice size for their age.

thanks I have always wondered about that, they are some pretty birds, I was thinking you had to cross a splash with a wheaten
