Ameraucana thread for posting pictures and discussing our birds

Then you can teach others, too, and show of all 3 of your breeds for comparisons. Also, I love all 3 of them. I will guiltily admit that I like the purebreds better than the Easter Eggers right now, but once I get "Olive" eggers (Araucana x Marans) that will change.

Wow Illia, just looked at your website and it's very nice

Very beautiful, Ann!

Unfortunately I don't have the money for a shipped bird at this moment. . . Perhaps come mid to late October.

Can anyone who breeds/shows tell me which is the greater problem/fault ..... a high vs. a low tail set in a cockerel? I'm trying to decrease the number of boys I have and not having much luck. Also, is a tiny wattle an automatic reason to cull?

Dak,
I will give you my personal thoughts but this is without any genetic research of these irregularities.
Wattles, if this is you best bird you may have to keep it, if not cull.
High tail carriage, if this is your only good bird it will produce more offsprings like itself.
Low tail carriage, can be worked out (unless it looks like a cubalay)and I have one that I was going to cull for such but right now he is looking closer to the correct angle so you need to wait on him for a few more months.
Have you considered asking the Guru's of Ameraucanas these questions on their club site?

Ditto. I've recently become "educated" about my flock of Ameraucanas, opps...I mean Easter Eggers. I enjoy the girls and their pretty eggs, but now I'm ready to "dabble" in breeding.
So, I've purchased two true Ameraucana cockerels-One White for my EE's and Black for the Blue & Black chicks from another breeder. (good lines I just can't remember names at the moment-still such a newbie).
Also, not one to just dip my toe in the water. I just acquired two Black Copper Marans roos. I plan to play around with that breed AND use them to create some "Olive Eggers".
Meanwhile, I'm going to get % up in the bator so I can start buying eggs and hatching my new projects. Whew. But, I'm excited!
BTW, my first BYC post. Yay!
