Ameraucana thread for posting pictures and discussing our birds

Beautiful eggs! Someone knows something about photography, overcast days are precious to outdoor photographers. I especially love those green speckled eggs! Someone was asking how to get that type of egg. Do you know if the EE was an Am/Marans mix or maybe an Am/Welsumer? I love the effect! Looks like a marans egg also in the pic...

Good morning.

I have a quick question. My blue Ameracauna Roo is small for his age. He is the only roo I have so I have no others to compare him with.
He is handsome but only about 3/4 the size of the pullets. Shouldn't he be bigger than them?

It does not seem uncommon for Ameraucana to run on the small side.

Standard Weights for Large Fowl

Cock………………6½ lbs. Hen……………….5½ lbs.
Cockerel………….5½ lbs. Pullet……………..4½ lbs.

Hope that doesn't happen to me I just sent 5 for one of them. I also hope they aren't as complicated as that araucana chart. The marans chart is easy I don't want to have to tell someone my eggs are between an A178 and a B543 ha ha. Well I hope mine comes anyway I think blue eggs might evan be harder than dark eggs each person sees blues and greens diffrently. Let's keep talking about this good discussion everyone!

I dont even think the check has been cashed yet, so havent really paid yet.. I have been checking ebay for them gonna have to do it again....

I did send him an e-mail the other day so maybe he will respond soon. I know its the holidays and things are busy for everyone. but if anyone knows where....

I have a few Ameraucana questions. Someone is going to be hatching me some chicks if Feb. and I have the choice between black, lav., and wheaten. What color(s) are most desierable if I were interested in selling hatching eggs or chicks once they are mature and breeding? I really like the lavenders but Im not sure if there is a big interest in them? The breeding stock that I am getting my chicks out of are very very nice and show quality, am I getting a deal at $3.75 a chick? I ordered 10 but if its a crazy good price maybe I should order more?

They are all popular, and that is a "crazy good price" EEs sell for $5.00 a chick round these parts.
You figure there is a chance half could be roos, so with some percentage of error you could probably count on a quad if you start with with 10.
Depends on the space you have. Black and Lavs can be penned together. Wheaten must be penned with Wheaten or Blue Wheaten to keep
chicks pure. I think I would do 10 Bl and Lav or 10 BW but unless you wanted variety for a laying flock, you need some kind of gene pool to select from.

Get what you like-you should enjoy them-that being said Mahonri is going to be posting the cutest ever W/BW chick pics in 17 days
so we will all be adding them (0:

I think that's a very fair price if they're truely out of good quality stock. I can't tell you if it's a "crazy good price" or not since I don't know who you got them from, and I can't see the birds in person or the egg color.

I think if I had to do it all over again, I'd get chicks instead of hatching eggs. I'm so happy with the birds I got, but after paying for the eggs and shipping, and only getting a total of 9 chicks from two different hatches, I have over $10.00 in each chick, lol! .....but I don't regret a penny of it.

So glad this thread is back up!!! I have no idea what happened to close it down, but happy the mods took the time and effort to clean it up.

If you want a good laugh. There is an outfit where I live (Splitrailfamilyfarms.com) that are asking $45.00 each for 5 month old Ameraucanas.
