Ameraucana thread for posting pictures and discussing our birds

I don't remember the hatchery I called about this before I bought my darlings from a rep. breeder on ABC, but when I did call they told me that Americanna is a separate breed from Ameraucanas. Searching the internet I found she was full of ____ .
The term "Easter Egger" sounds so much cuter than "Ameraucana" or "Americanna". I think they should just call them what they are : Easter Eggers. I think they would sell more that way.
Just my .02

I just had this conversation with a buyer that is looking into starting an Ameraucana flock. It shouldn't be such a hot button topic. I'm still corresponding with the hatcheries trying to get their names changed before the big chick wave hits full force but I think its going to have to wait another year.

This is a bit off topic but isn't it freezing rain anywhere else? I have some miserable chickens! Here are some pics of my new chickens. They look a little miserable because they were out when it first started raining.

Here is the new hens that I purchased. They are direct Paul Smith or Paul Smith crosses.

Here is a little pullet that was hatched out of Jean's eggs I believe (so I'm told)

Here is a picture of the Lav Split rooster that I purchased from Sebright Mom. I like him.

here is a bad group shot

I will get some pictures on here of the whites after bit and a group shot of just the new hens which I'm in love with. When its not so bad out I'll get some good pictures so I can show them off.
I'm hoping the rooster does some filling out. He was in a multi-roo pen and wasn't top dog so I imagine that he will fill out a bit.

I don't think freezing rain exists out here.

Well except this one time. . . Oh gosh, horrible thick ice everywhere. Poor chickens when crossing the driveway slipped and fell all over the place.

Your photos are dated for 2007

Personally, I love the label "non-standard" Ameraucanas being used to describe chickens that come from "pure" Ameraucana stock but don't conform to a color standard. When I'm looking for birds, I consider these to be very different from the Easter Eggers who are any combo of Ameraucana and other chicken breeds altogether. It's a distinction that comes up over and over again in real life, so it just helps to have a quick way to verify what type of chicken we are talking about.

Can the Ameraucana Breeders Club copyright the name Ameraucana and thus limit it's use?
