Ameraucana thread for posting pictures and discussing our birds

Here is my entry for the Feb hatch a long. This Silver Laced Wyandotte and Blue Wheaten Ameraucana chicks were my very first hatch ever and were in the Brinsea Octagon Eco 20 on 2-22-2011. The picture was taken with a Samsung SL605 @ 12 megapixels. With the incubator still running and the top intact. The only editing done was to add a black border. This is my entry in the Backyard Chickens Brinsea February Hatch-a-long Contest. We had 18 out of 19 hatch!!!

Wow! Just beautiful! I have some in the hatcher I need to move to a brooder this morning.
I just adore splash birds. I can't wait to see what my splash Am' boy, Opal, produces. Can't decide how to set up the pens, though. I'd love to see an all-splash pen, but I'll probably set him up with some of the black girls. I'll probably put the splash girls with Jade II (black Am'). I just don't know...

I like splash birds too. There are a few pics of splash roosters on this thread that are truely stunning. And blacks have such great egg color- if I didn't have the other colors here already....

Questions I should have asked before setting eggs

In my small flock, I have 1 blue Ameraucana hen and 1 black Ameraucana roo (he's awesome) that I acquired last year as day old chicks. I bought 4 chicks but ended up with 3 roos ~ 1 hen. Anyway, I really would like more Ameraucana hens so I saved her eggs this past week and put them in the incubator last night.

Very first time I've ever hatched eggs. I bought a Brinsea eco 20. Well, while laying in bed last night thinking about those eggs and dreaming of chicks, it came to mind that her eggs are harder shelled then my RIRs.

Are Ameraucana eggs typically harder? How will a chick ever get through that? Did I just waste 6 eggs?
