Ameraucana thread for posting pictures and discussing our birds

I didn't quite finish my grow-out pen, but if the weather permits I will work on it tomorrow. Hopefully within a few days I can get my flighty silvers out into this pen with all the rest of them. I hope to be able to sit in the pen and hand feed them some treats to calm them down some.

A lot of people say leghorns are flighty. Mine are not. They don't necessarily like to be picked up, but they follow me around like I'm the pied piper. They come right up to my feet. I'm hoping I can get these ameraucanas to do the same thing. The blacks and the wheatons seem to be the calmest of them.

I have 3 blue Ameraucana hens I hatched early July 2010. I made a "ghetto coop" since dh was in Afghanistan and I needed something for the winter. Dh made them a new coop last month as theirs was too small (birds were young when they went out and weren't that big) and it doesn't seem like the Ameraucana are laying still. The orloff and turkens are laying but not the ameraucana

I check 7+ times a day and don't even see shell pieces so I don't think they are eating them. I am going to be moving them to a pen next week with a nice splash roo, hopefully they will start to lay. I thought the cramped quarters were inhibiting their laying....could it be anything else?

yep, checked them for everything...one of my 6 pens(oldest, free range group) had mites so I have been checking all(pens arent close). Thought maybe being too cramped was initial reason(still could be) and maybe new coop was new reason(the one polish quit laying too when new coop and just got first egg yesterday)... just hoping when it's just the 3 of them with the splash guy they will start...didn't know if anyone ever had "dry" hens?

Having trouble with this one. Is this a pair? Roo definitely on right...pullet in question has wide comb are but not red and is considerably smaller than the roo.
