Ameraucana thread for posting pictures and discussing our birds

*Silver* is such a pretty color on cockbirds. It's a shame (I know, only to me) that the *silver* hens are 'brown'. It just doesn't seem fair : )

That's funny, I am totally the opposite - the reason I want to get Silver AMs is because I love the color of the hens. The grey/black/white penciling and salmon breast - I love that color! The Males.. well they are black and white.. ok - I guess..

Apparently she lost her beard and muffs due to the other hens picking on her in her previous home.

My EEs and Favs have the same "naked neck" problem for the same reason. I'm hoping they will come back after the first moult next fall. If that is not the case, let me know now so I won't get all excited come moult season becase from what I gather, nothing else good is happening then, especially NO EGGS!

Its like this, very simple, if you have chicken A, it lays a brown egg and is a Wyandotte. Then you have chicken B and its an Orpington, it lays a brown egg. What if people started calling both chickens Brownie Eggers??? That would not be fair would it.

Not a breeder so I don't know squat, but:

Your example of a Wynadotte / Orpington or any other brown layer wouldn't have any specific lineage requirement to be a "brown egger"

Wouldn't an EE HAVE to have some Ameraucana lineage? And while EEs don't breed true for color, as an AM should (to be considered other than PQ or an EE (by some apparently)) I would assume that the offspring of an EE that didn't have proper type (meaning beards, blue or green eggs, etc) would be a "cull".

I think it is nice that the culls of Ameraucana breeding are desirable as EEs

I recently purchased ten straight run chicks from them , absolutely top notch and very helpfull. I live in Arizona and was able to see where my girls came from, absolutely beautiful stock and highly recommended. Very healthy as well

Um, from whom? Please quote the post when you reply. Otherwise it is hard for the reader to follow.
