Uhm, quick question uh my rooster is definetly infertile, anyone close to me have an extra BBS or some chicks they would like to sell?

How old is he? Obviously, you have had several unsuccessful attempts with hatching eggs from his mating to be ready to make this decission. I culled a rooster last summer for the same reason. Let me tell you the last thing I did before I made my decission. I removed the fluffy rear feathers around the hens vent and also shortened her tail feathers because I was in question, wheather or not, the rooster was making contact. Afterwards, I observed and was certain this helped with contact, yet again, the eggs did not hatch. Made my decission he had to go! Have you tried anything similar? Good luck!

Yes I have tried everything I can think of :-( hes 2 years old I bought him from a farm near me and I am starting to wonder if that is why they sold him. And I have set about 100 eggs from different hens. I kind of think he is not even trying! I have never witnessed any mating behaviour from him. I am at a loss right now because he was fundemental in getting my program started. I know its not my incubating practices because I have several serama eggs developing nicely. also, I have had him for about 8 months SOMETHING should have happened by now right?

Do not use buffs to improve your wheatens!!!!!! They aren't anywhere near the wheatens for quality, egg color, or egg laying ability.

Hmmm, something new for me... now I have two questions. 1) Is this always true? I'm not doubting Jean, just trying to learn. 2) Are the purebred Ameraucanas always going to lay a blue egg? I think I read a post from quite a long way back that mentioned that.

I would really like to get a blue egg from a pullet that I can get here in WA. If I could "design" my perfect girl she would be the color of a buff or blue wheaten, lay a nice blue egg, and lay 8 eggs each week! Well maybe just 6.

But if buffs aren't heavy layers.... well rats.

I'm also learning that the egg color of an EE is probably a mystery until she begins laying, right? So will it be true that sticking with a true Ameraucana the egg color is going to be a for sure? If breeders are selling the culls from their projects is that going to be an issue for me? Any suggestions of how I might get my perfect girl?

p.s. I'm not a breeder, I don't show, and I don't raise chicks, so I'm looking for a partially grown pullet.

Those pics of the the W/BW's posted earlier were educational.. I have W/BW/Splash Amers and have been trying to get better pics of them to post on here for some critique, I don't know if I should keep them and work with them or not.. It has been so cold here, they are always huddled up on their roosts, so not good pics, As it warms I should be able to get some better pics... However, I know now that they do not have ticking, after seeing those pics and I'm feeling pretty good about their combs and leg color, as well as their muffs/beards..
I have a cull wheaten pullet from another breeder that has a single muff/beard which will stay in the laying pen, I had never planned on breeding her, but it has been interesting reading the comments on that issue, as well...

Hi all. Tired of lurking and decided to put up a couple of pics of my pure black Ameraucanas. My hen is starting to lay and I would love some feedback before I go further. The roo is Paul Smith and the hen is John Blehm.
