Ameraucana thread for posting pictures and discussing our birds

Hello everyone!!! I am looking for a good quality stock of black, blue & splask ameracaunas for a reasonable price. I live in WV. My oldest son has decided instead of getting ee's he would like to give a swing at our local 4H and county fair shows after they are mature. If anyone is willing to help me get started at a reasonable price please pm me! I do have an incubator and would love to have either eggs or peeps!!! Thanks again!!!

Picked up these 2 a couple of weeks ago as true ameraucanas, but one has (birchen?) markings that I understand disqualify it as a true ameraucana. The smaller one is pure black and they both have dark slate legs. The lady I got them from bought them as eggs and was told they were true ameraucanas. Am I correct in understanding that ameraucana do produce a small percentage of non standard offspring that won't qualify as ameraucana? I am thinking the larger one is a roo(pictured front) and the smaller one is still tough to call but I am hoping is a hen. I'll try to get a better pick of the smaller one. Can't seem to catch it looking up as it is always foraging. Any observations are appreciated. Thanks,
-Jake

Thanks, I had already come to that conclusion with the larger one due to the color, but wasn't sure on the smaller black one since I wasn't sure when the muffs/beard developed(total noob to chickens). I guess it doesn't qualify either.

Muffs and beards are pretty obvious, even on new chicks. I'm sorry you didn't get the birds you were hoping for! Hopefully one will be a hen and at least give you some nice EE green eggs.

Hi! Glad to meet someone nearby! I am originally from Morgantown and I trim regularly in Masontown (I'm a farrier). What kind of chickens do you have?

Just saw your next post. My 9 yo is going to do a chicken 4H project, too. I've located some pullets in TN I'm going to be getting, but I think he will use our eggs that are due to be delivered next week for his project. Really excited. How old is your son?

Here's a photo of my sweet girl, Bunny. She's 6 months old, still not laying. She's just a beautiful golden color and is the sweetest little girl in the flock!

She is a wonderful easter egger. I had one like her and like yours was the sweetest chicken I had. Follow me over to the easter egger thread and since you are in Norcal check out the Norcal thread. Lots of good and friendly advice over there.
