Ameraucana thread for posting pictures and discussing our birds

What do you call ANY bird that is non-standard to its breed? Why is this treated like an Ameraucana-only issue?

Because some hatcheries refuse to get with the program and call an EE and EE?

Why should Ameraucana project colors be treated differently than projects in any other breed?

I am sick of it, that is why I never visit this thread anymore.

10+ generations of generations of nothing but pure ameraucanas, and somebody comes along and wants to call them an EE because the APA hasn't accepted them yet? I sure as heck didn't put any EE in there. Who came to my house and put EEs in my lav pen? You might as well call them Labradors, because there is none of that in there either.

Case in point . today I called on some Ameraucana chicks .
Asked on the color . Was told they where wheaten color.
Asked for a photo. I got a picture of a easter egger just like the ones I have had or seen .
green legs and tan and black.
I had told them those are easter eggers. I was told no I am wrong they are
Non standard colored Ameraucana . Which they where easter eggers and obviously had something else in them.
she was uneducated probably or was trying to scam me.

Just venting.

As has been said before, you and everybody else for that matter, are free to call them whatever you want. However, the Ameraucana Breeders Association is VERY clear on the matter and they use the label "Easter Egger" to describe non-standard, non-project birds. So if you show up on a thread about Ameraucanas populated by folks that respect the ABC's position on the subject, you are going to hear them referred to as Easter Eggers.

I seriously believe this topic should be ignored - it really gets under some people's skin. As often as it happens, we should post links to the ABC and the EE thread and tell them to read and then come back when they are done. That should answer all questions they need answered.

Seriously, though, this EE/Am topic is getting old. Like BarnGoddess said, call them what you want. We just may not agree like some of us are fought with over what we call your non-standard Ams.

As a side note, on the Cochin thread, they pretty much call non-standard colors mutts over there - even if they are of pure breeding. At least non-standard Ameraucanas have a pretty name and still have a purpose.

Edited for spelling.

in shipment and it was over night so i guess it was not very strong. They are all from different breeding pens so i am excited and hopeful for my future breeders. These will be my kids show birds and i will be trying my hand at the Lav's to better them.

As much as we may dislike the constant repetition, this EE/Ameraucana issue is likely never going to go away - especially if we don't take the time to explain it to them in a civilized and convincing manner. Every day somebody is being sold an Easter Egger bearing the name "Ameraucana". Those folks are entitled to an explanation about why we aren't welcoming them warmly and with open arms. By being short with them or even worse, ignoring them altogether, we do come off as a bunch of elitist snobs which I don't think does any of us any favours. Many of us were in the same boat not that long ago and somebody took the time to explain it to us.

Many of the folks that go to the expense and trouble to work with "purebreds" in any species look down their noses at the "mutts" and often object to the breed name being used when the stock isn't worthy. It isn't just Ameraucana folks. We just seem to be more publicly vocal about it. I agree with you, it is GREAT that we have this swanky name, Easter Eggers, to label our non-standard mutts. My egg customers are MUCH happier getting eggs from the EEs and Olive Eggers, and they love seeing all the pretty coloured birds running around the yard. The name "Ameraucana" doesn't mean a thing to them.

To help with this issue I have decided to open another Ameraucana breed thread that will hopefully cover a broad spectrum of issues that surround this breed. I am fairly new to the breed and will need help from others to make this work. I have been told that this thread is mainly focused on discussing APA-standard birds which is absolutely fine. Since this is the main "sticky" Ameraucana thread, newcomers to the breed don't understand that it is an advanced place of learning focused very controlled breed specifics. Is there anyway to change the title of this thread to specifically state that? As it is now, the title does not reflect the topics discussed. I am beginning to understand that frustration of the long-time subscribers. But you are right, ignoring the topic altogether just alienates new people from becoming involved with the breed. Maybe having two different threads where like minded people frequent will help relieve some of the tension on here. I will post the link to the other thread on here and see what happens.
