Ameraucana thread for posting pictures and discussing our birds

At 3 weeks what clues are you looking at to sex? I know I have a 50/50 shot at guessing...I'd like to change those odds! Lol but so far I must await the crow. I've read 3 row combs/boy, 1 row combs/girl, thicker legs, taller stance, darker feathers (i have wheatans), wider combs, sweeter chicks(nice sweeties turning into mama boys then bad boys lol) are indicators of males. Lighter more even feathering/girls, sassy chicks, single comes, squatted stances are female indicators. But nothing has shouted "Yes its a roo" or "Yay! It's a pullet" to me (except my brain screams constantly it wants all girls when I am observing them, its biased lol)
Try the tail feather method.Pullets will have longer tails.

Their comb really starts changing at this age, as well as size / personality. At three weeks they comb develops into the three rows, I DID have ONE hen who had three rows, but they were always " messy" and didn't grow. The roosters don't seem to get " cocky " until later on, and my recent one is still a wimp. On wheatens you should be able to tell from color. really light=pullets. darker=cockerel.

Sorry, but I have to speak out. NO ONE comes to my property to see my birds, and that is a silly thing to evaluate a breeder by. If anything that would be a big strike in my book. To those who are disappointed when I won't let them come visit, oh well. My family and flock safety come first, and I'm not the local petting zoo.

Disease - (very easy to transmit). VERY!

Theft - yes, there are bad people out there who will come back and take what they want. Remember those birds you just pointed out and bragged about. So does the visitor.

Ask questions. The right ones will let you know the important stuff. Do they belong to the breed club, where did they obtain their birds, do they exhibit (NOT at fair level)? Obviously, don't buy birds sight unseen, unless it is someone with impeccable references. Take the time to go to an APA/ABA show. You will learn more in one day at a show, talking to breeders, than one year on BYC.
X2.I would rather loose a sale than have disease or theft problems. When buying I trust my own judgment on health and quality of the stock for sale.

At what age should an Ameraucana cockeral's comb start to redden?

Would some one mind helping me out here. I have two wheaten Ameraucanas that I hatched out and can not for the life of me sex them. They look similarly colored, the one looks a little lighter. The one is smaller and has twig legs and the other is larger and has tree trunk legs. They are 34 days old. I really would like it if someone put up some male/female pictures of their chicks at that age. I would post their pictures but I have no idea what happened to the cord for the camera.

Thanks for the tip :) Maaaaan...think I've got one of four lol hoping one other is a pullet too, two of the 4 have BOY all over them lol.

Thanks! I read about darker vs lighter tail feathers nit lengths! So much to research & learn...I love it :)

Can anyone help sex these 2? I think they ...or one at least...is a Splash Wheaten and the other maybe a Blue Wheaten(the smaller of the two has some blue spots on its shoulder feathers )? They're about 8-9

weeks and were sold as pullets, but now I'm noticing their bellies getting some darker feathering and I think they have 3 rows of peas, legs look about the same size...I don't know if the tail feathers are long or not...I old have two! :) We just started putting them alongside the older birds and I really don't want to start the process over if they're both cockerels!
