Ameraucana thread for posting pictures and discussing our birds

Very pretty! Is this a splash wheaten or a Blue wheaten? Still trying to get my colors straight... Please tolerate me LOL

No problem at all - he is a Blue Wheaten Ameraucana.

Is this a Araucana, Ameraucana, easter egger or Ameraucana mixed with barred rock? Thank you!!

What you have there is an Easter Egger, they are a mix breed that contains the blue egg gene but they can lay eggs from blue to olive colored. An Ameraucana is a breed that has a pea comb, full tail, beard and muffs together, and they only lay blue eggs. The APA only recognizes these colors in an Ameraucana: Black, white, blue wheaten, brown red, buff, silver, blue, and wheaten. Araucanas on the other hand sport ear tufts, are rumpless, and lay blue eggs. Just got these 2 yesterday. Can somebody tell me if they're EE or Ameraucanas? I bought them as Americauna pullets at Atwoods farm store but we know how unreliable they are with their breeds especially Ameraucana/EE.

They are very cute chicks..from this early age they could be any breed !! I doubt the are AM's, but, you never know. Congrats on the new additions.

If you got them from Atwoods then they are probably Easter Eggers, here's a link of Ameraucana chick pictures compared to the adult pictures.

I kinda figured as much. Oh well I dont plan on breeding them anyways but if I do it will be to my Marans for olive eggers. Are there any differences to look for when buying EE and Ameraucana chicks at that age for future reference?
