Ameraucana thread for posting pictures and discussing our birds

Here is a picture of a little wheaten ameraucana pullet that I got from a reputable breeder that I intended to breed with my blue wheaten rooster (pics posted earleir). She has not developed a beard or muffs like her sister. Whenever I am in the area, she will follow me and then fly up onto my arm or shoulder. She will continue to perch there while I take care of things chirping to me until I give some treats. While she may not be the best for breeding, she has won my heart and will always have a home here.

I love how blue her legs are. My Blue Wheaten cockerel has no muff or beard either. He's also quite curious and friendly so I'm having a hard time parting with him. I think I'm going to keep him and put him in with my laying hens (a couple of Barred Rocks and an Easter Egger) to produce some more Easter Eggers. The Easter Egger Roo I have with them has become people aggressive and needs to go to freezer camp ASAP! I have a nicely developing Wheaten cockerel who I'll leave with the Wheaten pullets.

I kinda figured as much. Oh well I dont plan on breeding them anyways but if I do it will be to my Marans for olive eggers. Are there any differences to look for when buying EE and Ameraucana chicks at that age for future reference?
You can purchase from a reputable breeder. Do some reading and learn the breed. Purchase the SOP. Go to some bird shows and talk to breeders you see. That will help you quite a bit.
The link on the bottom of my profile will take you to the APA and you can purchase the SOP there..and please join and support your local clubs including the APA and ABA. They really need your support and you are valued as a poultry owner.

As far as knowing for sure or what to look for..You have to know what you are looking at. That takes years of breeding and than it is just for your own line. Someone else's line will develop and look different as chicks.

Nice beards and muffs are very visible on some lines at day one....

The correct color legs or incorrect color legs are visible in some lines.
Know your down colors.

I hope this helps..

Hello,

I'm thinking about purchasing these eggs on ebay. But... I think their legs are green. Are they EE's?

Thanks.
That color is not recognized so technically some will say it is an EE....However it is a very interesting new color.

This will help you with some of your answers and is a great article written by Vicki Thompson and talks about myths and the lumping of everything into the big bowl of EE dome.

Please read and form your own opinion. Knowledge is a good thing!

Or these?

For me personally I would purchase Morrow..I only breed BBS so it makes good sense to me and i love the look of some of his birds. He has in his lines what I am missing. My line is long legged and too big..feathers not tight enough and lacks lacing delicacy. Give him a call and see if he will ship you eggs. 301)447-3611
However if i wanted yet another project I wanted to pull my hair out with and also get great joy in the challenge I would dive right in and get the other eggs
