Ameraucana thread for posting pictures and discussing our birds

At the show in Lebanon yesterday I saw about 10 whites and 2 blue wheatens. I was hoping to see some blues and blacks. the whites were very nice. I went to the sales coop many many times throughout the day. There was a trio of whites for sale, but they were sold. Icame back around 20 mins later and there was a white pullet I was all set on buying and she was solod. Talk about bad luck! I wish I would of saw them sooner.

Oh my goodness... all my hens are so good about only laying in the nesting boxes. I've been waiting for what seems like forever and finally got my first blue egg the other day from my black/lav split Ameraucana. And then none since... until I found a whole stash of them on top of a tarp on top of a coop outside the main coop. Crazy girl, LOL! And since I found those the other day - none since again in either place so apparently she found a NEW hiding place.

2 1/2 month old Penny, wheaten Ameraucana, is this standard coloring for the breed? I know it is pretty strict in the standard...

This is Queenie, one of my Ameraucanas and top chicken of the flock. (Hence her name. Lol) She is smaller than the others. (2 Orpingtons, 2 Australorps, and 1 other Ameraucana) But don't let her size fool ya-she has a huge personality! She follows me around the yard and will hop for meal worms, and seems to like to please me above the others. And she loves being pet! Unlike the other chickens, she will actually come over to me and if I bend down to her, she will stretch her wings and body out a certain way. (To get the most out of being petted, I'm guessing.) This is my first year raising chickens and so many things have caught me off guard, but in a good way. :) (Like when she hopped about a foot in the air for meal worms-no kidding!) I have tried to befriend the other chickens as Queenie has done with me, but the Australorps are SOO shy and the Orpingtons; I'm not sure what their issue is. And the other Ameraucana is actually at the bottom of the pecking order and acts unsure around me. I'm guessing since the top chicken of the pecking order has gotten close to me, maybe that's the main reason the others don't try... But Queenie's personality has just opened my eyes to another whole view to raising chickens. :D

You can put your order in now with Paul Smith. Seems like if you only get a small order you will probably get them sooner in the season.  I have a few BW from them and they are really nice. Not sure if Wayne Meredith is still shipping chicks, but he had a HUGE flock to accommodate so...I would try them. I like the birds I got from Wayne a few years back as well.
You are right- they have great temperaments. The lavs are the same way, but more broody.

Thanks for that info. Got a very quick reply back from him and made an order. It'll be hard to wait that long for them, but I also found a dozen hatching eggs from Peachick and Wayne Meredith stock that will be shipped this week, so I'll have some before Paul Smith ships my order. :)

I see white too on my screen but pic is small even with my zoom.
I have a blue wheatan and a splash wheatan. Their legs are a bit lighter than my Black AM's. Like a light grey almost on the splash pullet.
