Ameraucana thread for posting pictures and discussing our birds

Black has been used but you fight black for a few generations . I used wheaten and you fight red shoulders for a few generations . Pips and Peeps ( Jean ) on here was selling off some of her birds . Maybe she still has some for sale . I am still selecting for size . I see some improvement but not there yet .

Thanks, I messaged her. Not sure that I am qualified to take over for her..lol. Also, we would need to ship them al the way across the country. I am in south Carolina....

I want to do a Mille fluer breeding project on my bantams do any of you know how I would make the variety or are any of you working on this variety thanks

There are Milefleur Bantams. They have the beards. You would have to breed out the feathered legs and single combs but you would keep good beards all along. My first generation French Maran/Am cross only had one or two stray small leg feathers so in my limited experience with crossing clean and feather legged you could attain clean legs fairly fast.

X2 But use the clean legged, MF d'Anvers. Porcelain bantam Ameraucanas would be pretty too.

I have a couple of extra 8 week old MF and Porcelain d'Anver cockerels

Can anyone tell me if this 9 week old chick is a Pullet or Roo? I've never had a white one before. We got the eggs for the Easter Hatch Along, was told they are heritage, came from a blue egg. Probably more EE then anything because its hard to find real heritage around here, but not so much worried about that. The chick was extremely mad too, we had to chase her for about 2 minutes before I snagged her. Since they have been given free range, they are little devils about being handled. LOL

I vote in favor of pullet. There are not three rows of peas on the comb. That and the neck feathers don't seem to be particularly pointed. The bright red is probably from being chased.

Pretty Chicken! Its got quite a red comb for 9 weeks, I would say Rooster.

One more time for slow thinkers like me....

Feather sexing: Which has the longest feathers? (Please let it be the pullets!)

Three of my seven chicks that hatched Saturday have wing feathers that are quite a bit longer than the other four. Two of those three are the only splashes hatched and I was hoping for splashes.

The father of these chicks is a bird that has been aggressive to people since he was quite young (as a newbie, I just didn't recognize it), so I do not think I should keep any of the cockerels from this breeding regardless of their quality. The father is a fabulous rooster for the free ranging flock--very good with the hens and very protective--but he is getting dangerous and needs to be culled. I'm just waiting until some of the other cockerels are a bit older and can start being watchful and protective. Thoughts on people aggression in LF Ameraucana roosters?

Thanks.
