I wanted to say pullet, but then looks like some sickles forming there which means cockerel, but the absence of other things at that age, but could be slow maturing...so I figured I better go with:
I guarantee if it lays an egg it's a girl. Sometimes they fool Ya

Well, I want to qualify my statement with if it crows I guarantee it is a cockeral.

Or, if it crows, it's a boy!!! None are crowing at this point.

My lovely Wheaten Ameraucana, Rocky and her constant companion Apollo (black mix)! Rocky is quite special, she was the lone survivor of a hatch that lost power on day 17!!! Question for Ameraucana breeders. Will her muff get larger as she ages? And are Ameraucanas more 'plump' looking than other breeds? She is 13 weeks old and has the round body of a hen already.

The muff may or may not get fuller. I don't think you will see a drastic improvement, but she still has time to grow. She has quite the long tail! I can't speak about the plumpness factor as I'm not familiar with other breeds. I have seen plump looking Ameraucanas and trim looking ones. She is really a beautiful bird! Love the color. Is that typical of Ameraucanas to have a muff? If so then the 3 chicks I hatched have muffs and that would tell who the father was.

You cannot get BB with a splash as it is a nonrecognized variety and can only place BV.

You can if it's one of those little farm shows, Jean, not APA sanctioned.

But now I see it was a typo.

Thanks for the info. I adore her regardless but though she does seem to have a long tail for an average Ameraucana the angle of the pic does makes it look abnormally long LOL!

I actually won reserve champion and reserve grand champion with a splash at a little show! The more serious competitions are so much better! It was actually the same pullet That got 1st and BV

I just came from an ... Uhh...after show??
Lol was not able to get off work in time for judging. The only Ameraucanas there was a decent looking Blue Cock and what appeared as maybe a diluted? Blue...had a lot of cream in him? Maybe a blue & Silver cross?? Any way, he was showing full hackles and Saddles and entered as a Blue Hen.....
There were also a bunch of feed store birds, but some really nice Rocks, barred and white, and a few other decent birds. Was quite disappointed. Cliff Redden is only about 40 miles from me, so I was hoping his birds might be there, but probably to small of show for him. It's a shame, I wish the serious breeders would go to the smaller shows and help teach people what chickens should look like.
Ohh there was and EE entered as a Brown red, but looked more Black Gold....

That reminds me, was at another County Fair last weekend where a pretty nice Wheaten won BB.....problem I saw was it was entered as an Aracana....and that's how it was spelled to!! I know it was just a small show....but shouldn't the judge at least make them get the breed right???

They don't. Some will mention and tell them they entered it wrong, other wont say a thing. It is sad
