Ameraucana thread for posting pictures and discussing our birds

Here is a question for the breeding experts;
I have three black Ameraucanas from a lavender / black breeding and,
I have two black Ameraucanas from a black/ black breeding.
Would I get black Ameraucanas if I bred these together or would 25% be Lavenders?

So how can you tell if your chicken is an Ameraucana? I have a white pullet and she has green legs. She also has a muff. How can you tell? I'm pretty sure her parents are both As.

EE's have green legs. Her parents may both be Ameraucanas just not compatible colors. We would need a pic to be sure. My guess is that your bird has some mixed blood somewhere to contribute to the green legs.

That is not necessarily true. I have five EEs who do NOT have green legs, three have slate and one has white and one has yellow. EEs can have any color legs at all, lay any color eggs at all, have any color eyes or plumage at all. They just may have the general appearance of an Ameraucana (if you squint, lol) and they have have a blue egg laying parent in their lineage, but just miss the boat on the blue egg gene like a couple of mine did.

Used to have a barred EE who also had yellow legs yet laid a lovely greenish blue egg.

None of my EE's have green legs either. Some lay green, olive or blue eggs. Perhaps not as blue as blue can be but blue just the same. Mine all have slate colored legs.

My two original hens were EE's but the roo was a Lav. Amer.
