Ameraucana thread for posting pictures and discussing our birds

Hi all, I'm hopping on this thread as I've ordered my 1st blue Ameraucana female chick from Meyer Hatchery. She should arrive tomorrow. It seems there is a lot of (understandable) doubt regarding hatchery Ameraucana breeding purity. Does anyone know if I'll actually get a pure Ameraucana from Meyer? Or is it likely to be a mixed breed? She will be a well loved (aka spoiled rotten) laying/pet hen for our backyard mixed flock, no intentions of breeding or showing. So I won't be upset if she's actualy EE, just want to know other's experiences with Meyer Ameraucanas.

From what I have seen and read they will be well below Ameraucana level still. Most are lacking something that makes them Ameraucanas.

Would you mind if I post pics as she grows to get opinions on what is not up to standards? I am al also expecting 8 other breeds tomorrow & will need help identifying which is which. : )

You can create a thread on the 'what breed/sex is it' Forum. You will receive a mixed breed EE. I have yet to find a hatchery that actually has Ameraucanas. Most people have to go through a breeder or order hatching eggs to obtain true Ameraucanas, even then it can be tough to find good quality birds. I personally adore my EE's, they are packed with personality and are great layers!

There is one hatchery that now sells blue Ameraucanas. They do appear to be, though can't attest to the quality, as DMRippy says. The description is way different than your usual hatchery description, certainly. This is progress! Here is the link.

Wow I AM impressed, they even correctly labeled their EE's!!!

Is this what you ordered @WendyF ? If so then Speckledhen is correct (of course LOL) they ARE Ameraucanas!

I'm only going by their photo and description, of course, haven't seen any in person, but I'm very happy to see someone in the hatchery biz getting a clue!

I've felt like the hatcheries have been quite deliberate in their misinformation. It is nice to see that Meyer is being honest, and I must say the chicks I received from them are not half bad quality, comparatively. I ordered a trio of Buff Brahma, and although I received two roos all three have nice markings and great shape, a good start for my breeding!
