Hello all! I love the look and temperament of Ameraucanas. I first got 2 EEs from the local feed store, but I long for a real Ameraucana. And I got one a couple of weeks ago! I am really hoping this lavender Amer is a pullet. It's so sweet and is always the first to greet me and jump out of the brooder and tractor.

I was at the state meet in Michigan this past weekend . Fowl Fest . Won large fowl best of breed and champion AOSB any other standard breed on a black pullet . What I really like is she was from my lavender breeding pen . Yes split for lavender . I think that is very good coming from lavender . She had recently reached point of lay and looked good . I had been very busy this summer and did not pen here up for hand training . She posed very well for her Poultry Press photo . Did not fly away or freak out . So a calm sweet nature was more genetic than anything .

My lavenders are very sweet also.

In my experience the more forward chicks have turned out to be male. That's why I have a cockerel named Molly. As a chick it was very tame, and made a pet out of itself.

I've found that as well, but two of my three splash are very forward the way a cockerel is, even jumping up towards my face and the screen top of the pen. So far they seem to be pullets and are 16 or 17 weeks old now. They come right up to me outside and allow me to pick them up. I haven't tried to tame them at all other than throwing in shovelfuls of compost loaded with soldier fly larvae.

Congratulations! I'd love to see pictures too. I was at Fowl Fest Saturday to watch only. Nice bird! I do wish that breeders/ owners would be around to talk to visitors. I still like the cock that just moved from my place, and hope he's doing well. Mary
