I'm curious as to what you guys think of my boy. I don't plan on showing him, but I am toying with the idea of breeding him. He's just over 6 months old. He just started crowing, but he's still timid around the hens.

More breed confusion/questions. My friend hatched these cuties out from what she was sold as Amerucana eggs that she got from a breeder and I am confused by the leg color. Will they darken up?


I normally would do the "Oh, you got sold EE eggs" except she found pictures from this breeder with the same type legs:

I wouldn't worry about the legs. Here is a picture of some orange legs of chicks from a top Ameraucana breeder. They are now about 8 months old and their skin is white with proper leg coloring.

Yes, most AMS are born with orange legs. They eventually turn slate

What color are the soles of the feet? The webbing looks yellowish.

Where did you get the bird from?

I would say that unless you got it from a breeder, it is an EE. If you got it from a breeder, you still might be getting an EE because lots of people "breed" chickens and if they aren't serious fanciers of the breed, there is a good chance it isn't an Ameraucana.

Webbing is pinkish. No yellow on the feet and the legs are not green, they are black. We got 4 chicks that were supposed to be EEs from craiglist. We found later that 3 were either Marans or Australorps so I have no idea what breed she is. We don't really care either way, we were just curious.

You bought her off Craig's list as an EE? I think you have your answer.

Given the fact that 3 of the 4 weren't even EEs, it was pretty clear the lady we bought them from didn't really know what she had.
