Ameraucana thread for posting pictures and discussing our birds

Hi, I just picked up a couple of sweet white Ameraucana pullets yesterday because hubby wants blue eggs. I read somewhere that if you cross white with any other color of Ameraucana they are no longer Ameraucanas but EEs. Is this correct? I really like Wheaten Ameraucanas as well.
These girls are definitely Ameraucanas. They have blue legs and the most mild personality. I would like to know if I could breed them with another Americauna type/color and still have Ameraucanas and not Easter Eggers.

I love this chicken! Look at that face ... and comb. How cool is that? Not an Ameraucana, but hey..I love me some different chickens too.

Do you have any pics you can post?

No, if you breed them to another color Ameraucana you will have an unrecognized color and you will not be able to show. The offspring would not breed true and that is also a requirement. It would be unethical to sell them as Ameraucana.

Is it an EE? I don't know, but I do know it is not an Ameraucana. Color is wrong and leg and beak quite yellow. If there is any beard or muff there it is very little. Hard to sex them at this age. Their comb is usually where you can tell at an early age, but this bird still needs to grow a few more weeks. Not at all unusual for chicks to eat alot. You always want to keep their food and water filled. If she is an EE, I would be interested in knowing, if a girl, what color egg she lays. I'm just wondering if an EE with yellow legs can lay a blue/green egg.

About 5 weeks ago, I adopted several new babies, including a lavender Ameraucana. She's the sweetest and one of the smartest of the chicks. Well, I hope it's a she. I know it's hard to tell, but her stance, hackle feathers and saddle feathers all seem more pullet-like to me, but I'm no expert...just a hopeful chicken mama. She loves to snuggle and is always the first to jump out to me and likes to hang out in my lap, on my shoulders, and lately she's been trying to sit on my head. I sure hope she's not a roo. If she is a he, I hope it's a quiet one (oxymoron, I know), or my neighbors surely won't be happy, and I surely would be heartbroken.

Ok thanks! I might just have to break down and get a white roo then. In the meantime I'm going to try for some olive egger chicks this Spring with a blue copper marans roo that looks promising. I just love them! They make the cutest cheeping noises...Will that change as they mature? Here are some pics.

I hope it's a girl for you, but my experience has been the friendly, inquisitive ones tend to be males.

She's a pretty one. The cheeping noise does change as they mature, but it's still cute.
