Ameraucana thread for posting pictures and discussing our birds

My AMs hatch date was April 14. She was the first of nine. My hens normally lay through the winter, although at a reduced pace. Makes egg pick up an exciting time of the day!
Thanks! My black ams were hatched late May. My blue and splash June 9. And my lavs late June. Hoping for presents all winter as a spot of sunshine :)

I have contacted a breeder in my area. The EEs will love being turned out with the laying hens! I think they were jealous anyway. I may or may not keep the roo.

Here are a few pictures of my 2 Americaunas. One started laying in August, and the other laid it's first egg yesterday! Woot!

We were wondering when she'd start to lay.

The green one is Hawk-feather's first egg. The pink one on the right is Jewell's.

This isn't the best picture of them, but you can see their beards and muffs. They are so cuddly too!

Nice! working on a golden laced project?

Today has been a tough day in that we got about 12 inches of snow here in the mountains. It was a wet one, causing trees to droop and we lost power about 9AM this morning. We got the generator going early afternoon so our necessities are taken care of....computer, television, a few lamps and the refrigerator. The great thing that happened today is that I got the first egg from my 29 week old Ameraucanas! It was from my favorite splash. I saw one of the blue hens checking out a nest, but I was so excited, I did not wait around to see if she was laying as well. Here is the pic:

I don't think it is quite this blue and maybe has a little more green, but my lighting is so bad today, who knows? Let's home the camera is correct. The one on the right is from my little dominique that has been laying since July.

I found two blue yesterday One from the same splash as above and another very light blue one. I do not have a suspect for that one unless it is the blue that I have seen checking the nests.

i think all four of my new pullets hatched in February have started laying. I'll have to look a the blue eggs really carefully to be sure that I now have four new blue-egg layers.

I really like the blacks I bought from Paul Smith this year. They are very uniform and consistent, but they are impossible to tell apart. There black faces make it impossible for me to see their faces and expressions. I think I'll have to band them with different colored bands so that I can start seeing their differences and be able to attach those differences to an individual bird.
