Ameraucana thread for posting pictures and discussing our birds

EE, has green legs and not correct color pattern... so far she looks like a pullet, though! :)

Introducing..... Cheeks. One of two Ameraucana hens. She turned one in March. She is a wonderful layer.

.

One of 3 pure white Ameraucana pullets.

6 week old pullets. Hoping one or two is a roo.

I love my easter eggers! The only thing I noticed (with my birds) is that they lay a little more unpredictably than my ameraucans. I have a 2 year old that has completely stopped laying, while I have two, three year old ameraucanas that still give 2-3 eggs a week. This is my main reason for buying more ameraucanas, that, and they're a tad more docile.

BTW, those two white chicks I posted a picture of, they're splashes. So except for the two brown ones, the rest of the birds are recognized colors!

How accurate is it to say cockerels have a 3 row pea comb? I have some true Ameraucana between 7 and 10 weeks and im not sure about them

It's not accurate... in true Ameraucanas the proper pea comb has 3 rows of peas whether they are pullets or cockerels... your best bet is to start looking under their feathers at the base of the tail to see if any pointy saddle feathers are starting to come in... :)

Not arguing, just an observation. When the chicks are very, very young ( a week or less) I've noticed that the guarantied roosters have a very defined three rows of peas, while if their comb only has one row, or less defined, they have a better chance of being pullets. Not saying that these birds are the best of quality, and a lot of times the three rows develop later on in the bird's life, but I do think that there is a bit of accuracy to this practice... at least it's helped me.
