Ameraucana thread for posting pictures and discussing our birds

He is 6 months. He has a few of those reddish, rust colored feathers in his shoulder, but his hackles look clean. The muffs and combs on all 3 boys are really nice, so that's why I'm looking more at the coloring. Paul did a really good job with these birds, so I'm hoping to just not go backwards
Given that they all came in the same straight run batch, but from 3 different pens, I planned to watch them all. I just assumed that they could all possibly be carrying. I will only have 4 hens per pen, so it should be a little easier to tell who laid what egg and mark the chicks as they hatch.

I've posted pictures of them before, but since you guys are here and commenting today, I will post them again.
Hush Ravyn :gig

:plbb

Tells me to hush... see how you are? I'm the one that told you about the pullets possibly being leakage carriers but not showing it... and to test mate... :gig

I do love the blacks though... and I think you have a good base and are going in a good direction... ego aside, you are willing to learn and apply good advice rather than just throwing them together willy nilly... as long as you learn from any mistakes, you should be fine... :)

Oh, I'm here to learn, and you have helped me more than anyone. I just forgot which thread I was on for a minute

And you are right, I did learn about the leakage from you, and that is the reason I can sound like I halfway understand what I'm talking about. This thread has been pretty active for the last week or so, and my girls are starting to lay, so I'm trying to get you guys to point me in the right direction.
Quid pro quo: How about another picture of that fat little girl?

A nicely colored splash but I think his tail is set a bit high. Seems to have an abrupt start upward from the back and I think his back is a bit short. Hard to tell from pics sometimes.

Ravyn said the same thing about the tail, and he always carries it that way. That's why I ask you guys. I think his tail is gorgeous, and high and spread like that really shows the color, so if that's wrong, I wouldn't know

It is gorgeous, no doubt. Just as far as standard, he carries it too high. Personally, I like it, but I didn't set the standard.

Don't know if that's a pic of one black or two blacks, but he carries too low.

That is the same black, and he carries lower than the blue or the splash. As Ravyn pointed out, it could be a submissive posture. Right now all three are still in the same pen. The blue is the alpha, and the black is #3. I'm curious to see if he raises it when I split them up. If not, I will keep an eye out for higher tailed black pullets in the offspring to pull it up

Alright, here she is... had to get a new pic since she just started laying, lol... she has the gorgeous green sheen over her entire body too... out of @jerryse stock and I am proud to have her...

I agree... but he did say he was the more submissive so I'd like to see him again after he has them separated for a while...

Mine also didn't really fill out til they were closer to 8-9 months too... they seem to hit a growth spurt then that made a difference in my decisions... just my 2 cents... :)

Yeah, I sold off the extras a little early. The color traits showed early, but the type didn't. I thought they were close to what they would be, but they hit a massive spurt at right around 5-6 months. I can't believe how full they have gotten, and am kicking myself for selling the 4 month old black cockerel that was the biggest of the bunch. I thought they had good muffs at 4 months. I didn't realize they were just starting to grow
