I did a quick candle of several last night while changing water. I didn't even take them out of the racks, just flashed about half of them. There are a few duds, several questionable (was only day 7), and many with strong veining. The strongest looking were from the splash rooster, and most of the duds were from the black. I kind of expected that, as the black was the low man on the totem pole before the flock split. The splash rooster's girls have learned the routine, but the black's girls are still playing hard to getSC how are you doing tonight? Are you & the Mrs. Doing anything this weekend? I hope your eggs are doing good! Hope their all alive & thriving! You have been so excited about this first generation of little sc flockers! Don't drop any when u candle them! Your Ameraucanas are laying really well & right on schedule! Can't wait to see the little boogers when they start hatching!
Oh believe me, I'll start collecting eggs again Friday"The strongest looking were from the splash rooster." scflock
I knew there was something special about that rooster. You're a third of the way there, I hope you have a great hatch, and another, and another!![]()
Black rooster needs more confidence. Do the hens like him? I thought he was a happy camper with his females! Is he afraid of the girls? The poor fella! I'm expecting a decent hatch, and really hope to get some nice blues. I'm curious to see if one rooster throws better than the other
If a bird is stressed, they generally won't lay. Between the heat and humidity and the intimidation from other less gentle flockmates you may have your answer. Maybe a more pleasant spring and summer and the new, more friendly flockmate may turn things around next year. Another possibility is something went wrong internally. E-coli infections, for example, can happen and they can mess up the reproductive tract of hens and cause them to lay internally.

Oh, he's doing better now, but those eggs were collected just a week or so after the flock split. I expect the fertility will be better on the next batch. He's getting the job done now, but he was too submissive when penned with the other 2 roosters. The splash had perfected his moves, but the black needed a little practiceBlack rooster needs more confidence. Do the hens like him? I thought he was a happy camper with his females!
