Actually, I think the reason for blacks and blues being more commonly known for egg color and type has more to do with popularity... as Mr. Blehm stated, they are easier to get correct and have been bred much more widely than other varieties...

I can only speak for myself, but the only dumb question I ever heard was the one never spoken... ;)

You ar fine, I was just trying to make sure you saw it all... I know my phone adores missing posts for me... :gig

That was just a joke! My husband doesn't mind doing that! He does the part I don't like to do! Then I do every thing else! It works good for us! I would rather sell them then butcher them anyways!
No worries! Kinda wished DH was interested in the chickens, but they are not his thing. Really wished either one of us had grown up homesteading instead of in the suburbs.

It's all good, and glad you have a partner to help. Far from me to say how others work their flocks!

Well thats what the DH is for!!! Tell him! Be a man! Like in the old days! Big Strong Provider Man! lol You don't think I am going to butcher them do you! I did once! When my husband was at work. A dog got in our pen and killed most of them.I had to put the injured ones down! I cried the whole time! :hit There where about 30 chickens and I ended up with 0!
Oh my gosh! . That's terrible! No..the DH doesnt have that real he man strong will to protect thing going on.....unfortinately! Did it look like the grocery store meet cutter went wild on them?! Lol! It would if I did it for sure!

I can do everything but when they are like my feather babies. I just can't! Thats why I shouldn't kiss and cuddle on them when they are babies! I had a tame roo turn bad and my husband had to butcher him! We had a friend that had him for dinner!

Many years ago I breed all 16 recognized varieties (8 bantam & 8 LF) at the same time, but I don't think anyone else has or currently does. My ratings are only of the varieties that I currently breed and only represent my strains of those varieties. Someone else's LF silvers (different stain/line) may not rate the same in all categories and it is all subject to opinion. All varieties have their pros and cons. Blacks are most likely to win over other varieties just because it is an easy color to perfect compared to the others. Overall buffs are the most docile and broody, while silvers are the most flighty.

It would be nice if they would keep track like you did! That is awsome! Then beginners like me could look at the chart and it would help make things easyer! Sound like the blacks would be a good variety for people like me! The silvers not so much because of them being flighty. In your line anyways! Very interesting thank you!
