Ameraucana thread for posting pictures and discussing our birds

Woooo, now I understand the (+) following certain symbols, thank you! Is a symbols capitalization have anything to do with its dominance? Lower case meas recessive and Capitol mean dominant right? does that mean that if it contains an upp and lower case, like Bl for blue that it is incomplete dominant?
Poultry Genetics for the Nonprofessional is a good site to start with.

Email me (no PM please) if you would like a list of links to several other sites that I find helpful.

Okay, going back to how long we keep these babies in the house... anyone else enjoy the occasional guilty pleasure of bringing one of the big guys back in the house to watch a little TV on your lap? Not that I've brought my 2 year old Dom rooster inside for snuggles, of course, that would be crazy, right?!

Ok, woman, where are the pictures?

Patience, grasshopper! Confucius say, "Hatcher shall not be opened until sun set on hatch day"

So far, 7 wheaten/blue wheaten and 5 black out.

Okay, I did open hatcher - humidity dropped to 22% this morning and I don't have auto water fill set up, so I had to open and take a peek....

They are beautiful! Check them out.

The reason I haven't culled is because the vet said it didn't seem serious and their condition isn't worsening. I plan to get them healthy looking (ni more swelling) and introducion one of my hens to them while still in the garage. then after another month or so if none are sick again I will begin integration. or start selling off my current flock to make room for the SiAms and Bieles.

If the "sacrifical" Hen gets sick then I will cull.

That is a very good plan.

I had pips when I left for work this morning, so hopefully there will be some looking out at me when I get home :D

And I'm thrilled to announce we got our first Ameraucana egg yesterday! Sweet girl is 11 months old - I guess winter delayed POL?

Congrats!!

We have 2 Ams remaining of the 4 I bought last Mother's day - I think that was 5/10 - the two that died in August hatched Mother's day weekend and the 2 I still have hatched the previous weekend, so about 5/3/15. One just started laying on 1/29/16 (nearly 9 mos old) and is laying every other day - the other has yet to lay. Of the two I have one is a Blue Wheaten with the pale slate legs and the other is a Wheaten who I posted photos of a while back with the willow legs - they never changed to slate, and she is the one not yet laying. I need to email the breeder still about that - another BYCer did and he offered to replace them.

That is a very good plan.

One of the blacks - out of pen #4 is a little tank! He is out of my CH LF and one of three CH AOSB hens and he is huge!

Maybe my next Ch LF?? (how's that for counting chickens before they hatch or grow up?)
