I want to move to Florida! I am tired of the cold!!!! Brrrr I have been cold all day! My husband would never move!!!

Ok Jerryse! So if that chick is dominant white or recessive white! How would the chicks turn out if I breed to black? My two chicks in question one looks yellow and the other greyish yellow! They where from two different pens.

If dominant white, then, when bred to black, at least half the chicks will be white. If recessive white, then all chicks should be black, but split for white.

They would be recessive since you had no white birds . Dominant is expressed if present . Recessive white can have different shades of chick down . Smokey white , smokey yellow and white are common shades .

So the only way I would get white chicks is if I had a pair that where recessive white? I wouldn't be able to breed a black to one of the recessive white. Then breed back to parent because they would be related.

Breeding a chick back to a parent is called line breeding. It's how you strengthen certain traits, and can be done safely in chickens for several generations. While line breeding can be risky when done in mammals, chickens have a lot more genetic diversity. It's not going to cause major issues in the first few generations.

Just saying you have recessive white . This is 1 copy dominant white . Dominant white can not hide . You will see white if dominant .
.

Yes you can breed to black and then back . I am doing this myself to get more whites . Not trying to confuse you . You can even breed a white pullet ( if it grows to be a pullet ) back to the rooster that produced her or a white cockerel back to the hens in the pen that produced him . I used a white rooster that I bought over the pen of blacks that produced her . Getting some white chicks and blacks that carry white .
