Ameraucana thread for posting pictures and discussing our birds

They are one of the more difficult for hatcheries to sex accurately. True Ameraucana always have a color/variety specified. If no color is specified, they are almost always going to be Easter Eggers. Nothing wrong with Easter Eggers. I personally prefer them, to the Ameraucana. Really love all the diversity, and how each one is just a bit different. It's just that they are not Ameraucana. Easter Eggers really deserve their own label and the hatcheries and feed stores really should realize that.

No color was specified. Only stated they would lay blue eggs, Thank you for providing education. I guess I will head over to the EE forum..

EE's are beautiful chickens too and alot of them do lay blue eggs, however you may get pink or green eggs too. I think they should sell them as EE's because many people like this breed too. Best of luck with your beautiful chicks.

HI All!! I am Ann, I am fairly new to the chicken world. I currently have 15 chickens. BO, Silkies, and just 4 days ago purchased 4 Ameraucana chicks. I currently h ave them in a brooder with my two 1 month old silkies who taken well to them. I am supper excited to



watch them grow

When you buy "Ameraucanas" from the feed store they are likely Easter Eggers. When you buy true-bred "Ameraucanas" the seller should identify the specific variety such as Wheaten/Blue Wheaten, Black/Blue/Splash, Buff, White, Silver, Brown-Red, or in some special cases Lavender. If you bought the chicks guessing what color they grow out then you likely have the Easter Eggers -- beautiful birds though and still fun. If you find you have EEs then join the Easter Egger thread to compare the beautiful colors you have.

These guys are about 14 weeks. I know its a little early to tell but what do you guys think?

Rooster #2 is your best overall. Best build, best lacing, nice compact comb. The lack of tail feathers are probably result of a juvenile molt.

I like rooster # 2 the best he has a real nice overall build! I like rooster # 3 next best
