Ameraucana thread for posting pictures and discussing our birds

Here's a few pictures of our girls. I'm not sure if they're Ameraucana or Easter egger mutts.

They are Easter Eggers. And hatchery sourced Easter Egged aren't mutts. They just haven't been bred to meet any sort of consistent standard. They are the birds that the Ameraucana breed was derived from.

Easter Eggers make great chickens, I have some of both purebred Ameaurcana's and Easter Eggers . They will give you beautiful eggs and if you decide you want purebred ameraucana's to flock with them you can go to the Ameraucana club website to find a breeder in your area.

Thanks! I'm not sure what hatchery they came from but so far they are growing into lovely ladies. I have 3 of them and we're hoping for them to start laying some eggs soon :D

Thanks for the advise. We have quite the chicken addiction and may look to add a few more to the flock next year. I'll check out some of the breeders on the club website

Thanks! So that means one SHOULD be able to get 100% chocolate in a few of generations if they can find either a male carrying chocolate or a chocolate female. I can see why people mess with this just for the fun of it

Maybe not for the frustration of working out the undesirable genes though since apparently that can take MANY generations.

How old are they now? Figure 23 to 30 weeks for them to start laying.

Pretty!!!!

Thank you! This is my last batch of babies for the season. Oh I have some bourbon red turkey poults coming! That will be my last batch of the season!!! Oh edit! I have 10 Royal Palm turkey poults in the bator. That will be my last batch of the season!

Hatchery easter eggers are mutts. They have not consistently been bred to conform to any standard and have been outcrossed to brown eggs layers, etc to improve laying ability and vigor over the years. That is why you get so many different shades of eggs from them.
