Ameraucana thread for posting pictures and discussing our birds

If that is the case looks like i got the unlikely event of all 5 cockerals being wheaten. Some of the pullets are blue, easy enough to tell on them.

If you have some blue pullets, then you can still get blue wheaten offspring... the wheaten cockerel over a blue wheaten should give yiu approx 50/50 wheatens and blue wheatens...

This is not a gender question. Its blue wheaten roosters and wheaten. No issues telling gende, what age is blue or wheaten obvious on cockerals?

Hello all, I just purchased two ameraucana. I have EEs already and love them but these are my first that are suppose to be pure ameraucana. The breeder also had a beautiful blue Wheaton rooster I am so tempted to go back and buy. Let me know if anything stands out that these are not good ams. Really hard to get pics, they are super flighty right now. I bought two of them and then a copper Marans (not great quality but it's for the olive project) and a Marans ameraucana cross.

Hard to judge much at this age, since they're in that ackward juvie stage... but looks like your lighter blue is a cockerel and the darker might be a pullet... her legs are really dark, are they slate or more of a black?

But nothing off about them jumps out from these pics...

Also, since these are blues I wouldn't get the blue wheaten rooster to breed with them, that'll give mixed colors (EE's)...

I checked all my lavenders toe punches. I have two roosters and one pullet from that pen. I will use the pullet as a olive egger and cull the two roosters. I will still have 3-4 roosters and 3-4 pullets. It was dark and I couldn't tell if the one was a rooster or hen!!! lol

You should ask Paul how many hens were in that pen. He may have had two or three hens with the rooster and only one of those hens produced that leaky rooster. Your pullet may be good to use. Best just to raise a male from her and find out.

I would say the darker one has legs closer to black so that would delegate her to the laying pen... I hope the other is not a cockerel but I guess if that were the case, if he turned out to be at least a good quality that would work. I would just need more pullets. I'll skip the blue wheaton roo then. Thank you. are they both considered "blue"? I know the lighter one would be but is the darker one still considered blue?

I *think* she would still be considered blue, but I'd wait for another opinion on that... I like darker blues, but she almost looks charcoal??

How old exactly are they? The darker blue feathers on the lighter ones head and shoulders, plus the very pink comb just looks cockerelish to me, but could be mistaken...
