I haven't been on here in quite a while due to flooding and just being busy. Thought I would share my exciting news. One of my splash hens laid her first egg today.

Still waiting on five other girls as they are all the same age. End of 27 weeks. Monday would have been 28.

It was a decent size. Go figure that my egg chart is packed up since the flood so I really can't give numbers or letters yet.

I'm so happy to finally get my first Ameraucana egg! Always seems like it takes forever but it's really not compared to other breeds. I hope everyone is doing well.

That's a nice size for a first egg. They usually get bigger as the bird grows. Stay dry!

Like everyone's said already, they are just young and I am impatient to see their final appearance. They are getting prettier every day though. Even the one with half green and half purple sheen looks like she will have perfect form. I may put her in a pen with another cockerel at some point to test breed her. Not sure yet. I'll bet the one with a small beard is going through a stage right now and both pullets will be gorgeous in a few months.

We got our 1st 3 eggs today. 1 must be from yesterday as we only have 2 EEs and these are light green. But this means hopefully my 2 black ameraucanas and my wheaton ameraucana should be close behind as they are 1 week younger! Sooo eggcited

Question.... if you cross a wheaten with a spot of pearl on the earlobes with a blue wheaten that has proper earlobe color, about how many offspring will be born with correct earlobe color?? Thanks.

That spot of pearl is called porcelain white and is a DQ, if a judge checks. It is difficult to get rid of.

So that makes it a cull trait, and the bird should not be used for improving the breed, right?
Is it dominant or recessive?
