Wow - that was kinda harsh...

My feelings aren't hurt I just would like to know what that means its kinda just a childish way of putting it (I am young myself to) I also don't get it because in my opinion Ameraucana really have little comb to speak of I think as long as they have a pea comb that fits the standard just waiting for clarification from the experts I guess.

And that's very diplomatic of you Henry! I, on the other hand, was intantly offended on your behalf, but you may be absolutely correct, it may just be the wording...

Hi, I'm new to this thread. I don't currently have ameraucanas but I have ordered 50 from John Blehm and they are due in April, 2010. I am sharing the order with several other BYCers and am curious about a few things. First, he doesn't have a lot of pics on his site and I requested he send them tagged so I can tell the different varieties apart. We are ordering Black LFs, Silver LFs and Wheaten LFs. Does anyone have pics of these varieties as 1-3 day old chicks? Will I be able to tell them apart if he doesn't tag them?
Also I am getting 5 Blacks and 2 silvers from the order and would like any additional info on these birds that anyone can give... He has some info on his page but the more I know the better. He also doesn't list the size of egg and although he says the lay rate is best in Blacks and egg color is best in Silvers that isn't very specific.

How many eggs a week should I hope for from these varieties? Also, I can't keep roos and he only sells straight run, hoping out of 7 birds I get at least a few pullets. Anyone interested in pure bred silver or black roo ameraucanas?

I'll have to check on that. Since they will be older by the time I know what gender they are - I will need to put food and water in with them and send them overnight. I'll have to check with fedex and UPS. One of the entries in this thread showed where to get mini waterers that will stick to the sides of boxes and I can always put some veggie or apple shavings in for food... Just have never done it before.

Speckled hens ameraucana hen is named gypsy.

Gypsy face is when the comb color is darker then normal like black or purple. It often happens in Ameraucana in the black color I am not sure about other colors. Its easily bred out and only shows up rarely and often lightens to red when the hens get older and start to lay. Some breeders I have talked to feel like there may have been sumatra used far back in some ameraucana lines and the black combs show through occasionally.

Thats just what I think no expert though.

Henry
