Ameraucana thread for posting pictures and discussing our birds

I raise, breed, and show WBS Ameraucanas. You can see WBS 1-3 day old chicks on my website. Expect to get a Medium to Large egg from the WBS and about 3-4 eggs a week.

God Bless,

Your Welcome. Are you getting LF or Bantam? I went in on the order with a friend and she got Bantam Wheatens and they were the cutest things I have ever seen. They were so tiny, they looked like little popcorn balls running around.

God Bless,

Thanks Tailfeathers! You have some awesome looking Barnevelders there too! I love Barnies!

I'm getting Large Fowl Ameraucanas. I had some bantam EEs about 25 years ago and although sooooo cute, once the novelty wore off I got tired of dealing with such tiny eggs. I'm big into baking all the time and I go through a lot of eggs so I don't want to deal w/ peewee eggs anymore. But, yes, they are too cute!

My birds are Decent layers, But it takes them a while to get started

What he means is that his blacks lay the best, but their eggs are minty green. His Silvers are more "bluish"

Sunny, thanks for the kind words about my Barnies but, to be perfectly honest, of the three breeds I breed and show the Barnies have the farthest to go and the most work yet to be done.

On the subject of baking, you might give duck eggs a try. We like to eat them like chicken eggs but many folks, my wife and her mother included, will tell ya that they make better eggs for baking.

God Bless,

That might be true with every line I am getting about half of the eggs in a really nice blue and half of them are minty or light greenish blue. My birds are all blacks hopefully I can select eggs from the few pullets that are laying the nice blue eggs and try and hatch them when I have more room.

Thanks for the great info, Blackbird12 and Tailfeathers! I appreciate it. I don't show birds Tailfeathers, so I don't know of all the standards you have to meet, but I do love the look of those Barnevelders! I'll give duck eggs a try someday when I get some room to spread out, but for now I'm in a tract home, with a pie shaped lot, so ducks are a no go.
