Ameraucana thread for posting pictures and discussing our birds

You don't want to cross your Wheaten family with the Blue/Black/Splash family. It will mess up your colors, however, you can certainly do it. You just won't get an accepted Ameraucana color. I think most breeders would then call them Easter Eggers.

Considering all the expertise here, I hope it's ok if I get confirmation about this bird. She was sold to me (sight unseen) as a blue Ameraucana. However, when went to get her and saw all the brown coloration, I assumed she was really an EE (bought her anyway, obviously).

Am I right? EE not Ameraucana? This is Xena, Victor's favorite girl, btw.

She lays a very nice colored egg. I'll put a pic of that too. Thanks!

Maybe this is what you'd get! Zena is gorgeous! She'd be considered and EE because she isn't an accepted color- even if both parents were ameraucana. Just like Mahonris's pretty little roo. Nice egg color too!

I finally got a pic of my practically beardless pullets. A bearded girl is on the right. They are going to be 4 months soon:

Only if you want to mess up your colors I guess. I was wondering how lavender would play into it too- but I guess it's not a good idea.

However- you could cross WBWSW ameraucana with other BBS breeds (like orps or cochins) and make some LOVELY EEs! I''ve got my second try going in the bator soon for just that.

Thanks HappyMtn and Ewesheep! Before reading this thread, I had no idea you could breed two Ameraucanas and get offspring that are not considered Ameraucana! I have 3 of her eggs in a homemade incubator. If any of them hatch, I'll be very curious to see what Xena and Victor's babies look like. The other eggs in there are Victor x RSL, BLS, BA and BR. Should be some interesting EEs if I'm successful in hatching them.

HappyMtn, those are some adorable pullets!

Someone was just talking about this- I think they said because splash is irregular- sometimes it's dark, sometimes not, sometimes a lot of splashes, sometimes a few. It's just not consistent.
