Ameraucana thread for posting pictures and discussing our birds

MrsChickendad - Mine are from John. Looks like I'm gonna have a bunch of wheaten roos, too. Daddy is from Jean, Mama is from John.

Hmmm, you can send some of those roos my way too...I'm just saying they'll be taken care of very nicely!!

So this guy is what I suspect is my Ameraucana Roo. Am I correct? I looked at my other suspected ones from another source and have decided that they are probably EEs due to their eye color being yellowish--also correct?

Thanks for any info! Terri O

All these photos of black roosters make me impatient for my cockerel to actually mature. . . 4 more months and I should expect him to actually look like a "man."

My Wheaten Ameraucana roo Ranger is so awesome with the chicks in his pen....and they love their daddy...like to hop on his back for a ride.
At almost a month old, they are hopping on the roost at night with the big chickens. I snapped this last night with Ranger protectively hovering over
his babies on the right, and #1 wife Opie under his left wing.

All is not total bliss...one big happy family, in the pen though. Sophie, who was secretly adding eggs to the nests of her broody sisters, hatched a chick a day
for four days until I pulled her off the nest so she could care for her four babies. She is hell on wheels to everyone in the pen but Ranger. She runs down any Mama
or month old that gets close to her chicks. I've set up separate feeders and waterer's in her section so the the confrontations are minimal, and she sleeps downstairs
while the rest go upstairs now. But it amazes me that all the other 3 hens run terrified when she comes after them if they venture into her territory. Do they not realize
that there are three of them and one of her?

It's extremely entertaining to watch these chickens interact

Looks like the majority of chicks are girls

. . . I'm so bummed I'll never have the chance to see roos like that. . . All my boys will be separate and only see their girls during breeding time.

WOW, I had no idea a rooster could be like that. They get alot of negative press.

Adorable pic!! My EE roo (yes, I know this is an Ameraucana thread

) takes care of his babies like that too and feeds them as well. I love to watch him be a daddy!
