Ameraucana thread for posting pictures and discussing our birds

Phrogg,
We hold and hand-feed our babies every day when they are young. It's wonderful when there are just a few, but when you have a lot it can be very time consuming. It's well worth it in the end. Even a 2 yr old can reach down and pick up our adult birds. It helps alot when you're dusting or moving chickens around to not have to chase them! Our broody is so used to being handled that she just stands up for me when I come over to check her.

I've found that even the flightiest ones eventually come around. We have some 8 week olds that are just now beginning to trust that the big people are always kind!

That has to be the cutest pic I've seen in a long time!! That is just awesome! I so hope my Ameracauna roo Eagle grows up to be like that! are most Am roos nice? Eagle is only 7 weeks old; he was trying to crow this morning..

To my experience, I have never heard of or known a mean Ameraucana rooster. Even my young boys are all the sweetest cockerels I have ever known, and never even boss around the pullets.

My ameraucana boys have always been nice....have never even looked sideways at any of my kids. In fact my 2yo can walk right up to the dom roo and he just stands there and I didn't handle him much when he was little

Well it wasn't a very advanced crow! sounded like a very rusty squeak--it was cute. I stood there & laughed. Eagle is the first roo I've ever had that comes right up to me & has no problems being picked up. I am SO hoping he keeps his nice temperment! I've never had an Ameracauana roo before. I can tell you my Blue Andalusian roos were all mean as wet cats. They all ended up in freezer camp...

I just checked my calendar--they'll be 8 weeks old tomorrow. They grow up too fast!

I'm curious to hear that too -- I've got a lavender chick with a single comb.

I think that quote would be more likely to apply to easter eggers.

The lavender splits I got rid of last winter with the single combs laid blue eggs............

Hey Everybody,
Just had to let everybody know we just got our eggs from Dipsy Doodle Doo this afternoon.

Not only are they pretty eggs, but she is overly generous with extras.
