we still have 1 egg in the incubator that looked to be moving when we quickly candled it this am, the 4 chicks moved to the brooder so they can eat and drink.

My Ameraucanas from Jean are my very favorite chickies (but don't tell the others

they all think they are my favorites). Even my DH loves them! Yours are beautiful!!

Tgrlily - definitely hang on to them. I am almost sure my W/BW legs were yellow when they were little...but they are more of a light slate color when I go out and look at them now.

Thanks! The legs were pinkish at hatch, just like my son's Dorkings & they're a little funny colored now, but definitely not yellow. Dorkings have white legs. I'll try to get a close-up in natural light tomorrow.

I'm baaaacckkk from the show!!!

My white cock bird was Reserve AOSB under both judges this weekend. So, I did better this weeked than the past two shows. The judges were Gary Overton (yes, I pulled him aside and needled him about sebastopols) and Bart Pals.

Anyway, on the wheatens, they hatch with a skin colored pale leg and they turn slate as they mature. Light legs can be an issue in this variety, so you never want to breed a bird that does not have slate legs.

Jen (Ultasol) did well with her silkies too!

Oh, I bought some lavender ice babies they had for sale from Holderreads.......

DONT TELL MY HUSBAND!!!!!!!!!!

Congrats pips&peeps

Ok so I posted pictures of my new trio a few days ago, and they were like ghostly white from being in a building there whole life. Well at my place I dont have a barn to put them in so they went out into a run and coop with my other ameraucanas. Well the rooster especially has gotten really red in the face (like he is suppose to ) and his legs are getting darker. Anyway to explain that?

vitamin D???

that would be my guess too. Another thing, could it be sunburn? I would have covered the run and gradually exposed them more each day. I don't know where you are(as far as weather) but it might be something to consider if you are in an extremely sunny climate...
