Ameraucana thread for posting pictures and discussing our birds

Thanks mediazeal
Hope I'm not in over my head with all that one needs to know with the genetics. But then again there is BYC for help. I'm sure I will have lots of questions as they grow.

I am not sure I am understanding your question
if you put a splash roo over black hens you get 100% blue, but blue doesn't breed true because blue x blue = 50% blue, 25% black and 25% splash

If you put splash over silver you'd get more blues too. The silvers seem to be in demand now though- so I'd stick with them and work on improving the line if you do get some.

Can anyone help me sort out these three?

Buff ameraucana hatched on 4/16, one has been darker than the other two since hatch but is feathering in buff.

I asked the breeder about it but I never got a reply and am wondering if their color is correct?

Two pullets and a roo wishful thinking?

Legs are different too.

You can see it was dark from hatch.

buff ameraucanas are Supposed to have little or no black at all, so I wouldn't take the blackish one to a Show. It looks like 2 boys and one girl!

Thank you HappyMtn and klf73.
So the black will breed B/B/S if I have a splash roo and interesting that a silver will also give me blues.
If I have a black roo over silver what do I get?
Black and Blue?

I dont' think I will get more than 1 silver if any from her group, at least for now. So I'm not going to be able to start a silver pen.

chickenherder,

You need to go to the post about buff Leghorns and ask Don Honour. He is probably one of the most knowledgable buff breeders in the USA. He also wrote a book on breeding just buff birds and at one time was free to be downloaded. Good luck, Harry

wheaten and blue wheaten are expected the only way you can get splash wheaten is if the roo is blue wheaten and hen is blue wheaten(or splash wheaten on either), but none give you regular splash

Thank you klf73. I do appreciate the help. It's all very confusing to me.

He has some partridge genes.....

Gary got his start in buffs from me and I see that from time to time. This buff bird is not wheaten based and is why it has dark legs.
