As for age of first egg it can vary a lot. Most of my LF lay at about 6 months plus.I have a LF silver hen that was a may hatch that still has not layed and the lights have been on over 6 weeks. She has not even colored up in the comb. Jerry

Almost all of my girls will do this. . . They'll tease me with behaviors like that, and it will take anywhere from 1 day to 1 week of teasing before I get anything. Patience is the key I guess. . .
If I'm on the wrong thread for this just slap me gently and I'll ask some where else.
I only have ameraucanas from a reputable ABC breeder.
I have a few young (< 8 months), hens laying.
The egg colors are "good".
They are on Purina Layer feed + kitchen veggie scraps with sometimes cracked corn.
Pullet eggs were smaller (as expected) and now have become correct sized.
The egg thickness is suprprising!
They are very hard, thick shelled eggs.
Is this normal?

I agree. You'll have an egg soon! This is normal behavior shortly before onset of laying. Don't stress you poor back waiting for it though! In this case it's worse than waiting for water to boil.
Anybody on this thread from Alabama? I really would like to bring in some fresh blood. I would be interested in eggs, chicks or pullets. BBS. No roos please. I have more than my share already.
I know I could order eggs but I really want to avoid that if I can. Such a poor hatch rate on shipped eggs, at least that has been my experience.
